Polaroid DVG-1080P High Definition Flash Media Camcorder Reviews Anyone ?

okay soo im about to purchase this camera and i wanna know if its a good buy. Its found at Target. heres what it looks like....

Answer
Polaroid High-Definition Digital Camcorder
http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-High%252dDefinition-Camcorder-Black%252fSilver-%2528DVG%252d1080P%2529/dp/B0029SVRTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249624922&sr=8-1&tag=aor-sale-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I just picked up one of these and since there wasn't a real review yet, here are my initial thoughts. Considering the price, I bought this with low demands and expectations. It's very easy to use. I had no problem connecting it to my computer. Recording quality is good enough if I'm outside or in a well lit room but otherwise it's useless. This isn't for rooms lit with a lamp or two. That shouldn't be too shocking though. Still pictures are coming out blurry. This won't be replacing my digital camera anytime soon. The usb cover is held on by a very flimsy piece of rubber. That'll break off in no time. I like the screen. It flips around so you can see yourself as you record, if you're into that kinda thing. Sound quality was better than I expected. It picks up a lot of noise but it works. It only comes with 16mb of memory so unless you want about ten seconds of video you will need a memory card. When I got home I picked up a 1gb sandisk card here on amazon for about $15. great deal. Overall, I think I got my $79 worth. I think this would be a great starter camera for a kid, or for someone on a budget like me who just wants to share some nonsense online with friends. I hope to have fun with it on my trip out west.

Hope this help :) Good Luck!

What is the best DVD Sony Camcorder to buy?

SS

I want to upgrade from my Hi-8 Sony camcorder. Which is the best to buy without being too expensive. I will use it to video my kids and family. Is there a way to put my
Hi-8 videos on DVD? Thank you for answering.

Answer
Here's a good website to learn about DVD camcorders:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/d/Reviews&level_b=Camcorder&level_c=DVD.htm
You can look through the reviews and find the best DVD camcorder in your price range.

As far as converting Hi8 videos to DVD, here's a helpful guide:
http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/basics/tapetodvd.php
if you only need to do a straight transfer to DVD - without any editing on a computer - then you best option may be to use a stand-alone DVD recorder. For example: http://hometheater.about.com/cs/toppicks/tp/aatpdvdrecorder.htm

Which brand mini camcorder is tops for performance/value + very cost effective please?

Answer
We bought this mini-camcorder for our daughter for Christmas...

http://www.target.com/Aiptek-P-HD-Camcorder/dp/B001G70RRW/sr=1-1/qid=1230548077/ref=sr_1_1/183-0280896-4005658?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Aaiptek&page=1

We found it at Target for $120 and bought a 4GB flash card for another $25.

The user interface is a little odd at first, but once you figure out what the designers had in mind, it's pretty simple. It takes stills, varying qualities of video, it has night-vision mode, can be used as a voice recorder, and I think it has an MP3 player built in.

We havn't uploaded anything to the PC yet, so I don't know how that will all go down. It comes with a disk/program but I'm gonna let Windows Media and Picasa have first crack at it.

For the price, all seems well so far.

Best value beginner movie camera?

Miles

I'm gonna start making movies soon, mainly cultural documentaries in other countries, and I need a new hd camera, I want something that looks professional, like an xf305, but that's for looks I'm not too worried, performance is my priority, a camera with good focus is good, when I'm not doing documentaries il probably it for skate videos and holiday videos, apart from that I need basics like sd recording because tapes are to much hassle but that's pretty much a modern default anyway so yeah

Answer
HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

What is the BEST Mini HD Camcorder On the Market Today?

kMODE

OK everyone, looking to hear your opinion on the BEST Mini HD camcorder on the market today.

Please consider the following when making your pick:

1) Must be small, we're looking at products like the Flip MinoHD or the Flip UltraHD.

2) No MiniDV, again just looking for a camcorder with a hard drive capture (like the above)

3) Image quality is extremely important. I know not to expect Zeiss Prime Lens quality here, but the optics and the image quality (in HD) should be great.

4) Adequate storage, I know this is limited due to size so maybe the Flip takes it again here?

I'm looking at Flip products since they seem to fit the bill. (Compact, high quality, HD, quick transfer to laptop, etc.)

Your thoughts?

Your pics for the best Mini HD camcorder?

Answer
This is an excellent consumer or even prosumer grade camcorder. Image quality is great and indoor light image quality is much improved over the first Sanyo HD 1 from 2 years ago. As some have complained about the image stabilization control, it is true to some degree. Walking while shooting will produce nearly as great a shaking image as not using the image stabilization. However, if your standing still and moving the camera in normal, non jarring movements, it will do a good job of stabilizing the image. This too is an improvement over the old HD 1 (which I still own), but I believe it's one area where Canon has an advantage, using optical instead of digital image stabilization. Sanyo's advantage for me is in the ergonomics of the design and the price. It comes down to what's more important to you. Finally, the free Nero editing/DVD/Blu-Ray authoring is very good for editing even 1080p HD footage. It could be more intuitive in its functions, but once you learn it, it's easy.

Great, cheap video camcorder on the market?

<3

I have a Pure Digital flip that stores 30 min of video, but i'm really not impressed because the voice record sucks and the picture quality is crappy. Also, 30% of my internal memory mysteriously disappeared...so is there a much better, cheap one out there?

Answer
It all depends on your opinion of "cheap." Good camcorders start at roughly $400, and a "Great Camcorder" will run you $600+. They do make disposable camcorders (try Walmart, etc) that are cheap and used in the same manner as a disposable camera. The video will be better than a digital camcorder, but not as good as a actual extended use camcorder.

Hope this helps,

I purchased sony vegas pro 12 and used it on my old camcorder. The results were not at its best sd definition.I want to switch to full HD. My budget is under $1200 =1300 . does any one have a suggestion. thx

Answer
Prosumer? more like 2x more than you want to spend.

My definition of "prosumer" camcorder:
Lens filter diameter: 70mm or larger.
Imaging chip array: 3CCD or 3CMOS 1/3" or larger
Low compression video capture
If it has XLR audio connectors it jumps to pro-grade

The closest I can get you is a prosumer Sony HDR-FX1000. There is no "prosumer" camcorder that can provide good low light behavior in your price range.

If we are locked to your price range, there are a couple of consumer camcorders that have 58mm diameter lenses and single 1/3" imaging chips. Like something from the Canon HF S series. We assume you computer is relatively new and has enough RAM to deal with AVCHD-compressed video.

You will want a mic (wireless) or an external audio recorder (like a Zoom H1, H2 or H4, among others from Olympus, Edirol, Marantz, Tascam, etc... We assume you already have a tripod.

Recommendations for a prosumer CAMCORDER?

D-Bag

Long story short..

I wanna purchase a camera this summer.. I'm looking for 1080 with 24p capabilities. I know the technology's been out for a while.. Is there a reason I shouldn't purchase an older cam, like the Canon XL H1 or the Canon XH A1? As well, how do y'all feel about the recent film making craze with SLR's? Advantages and disadvantages? Basically, any and all info, websites, list of potential cameras, or anything else y'all wanna give me would be MUCH appreciated! i mean, I would appreciate it. Please help. Thank you.

Answer
you show me a dSLR that has SMPTE timecode, genlock, SDI output, XLR mic inputs, headphone audio monitor and maybe it could be compared to a 3 CCD Canon XL H1. go for the H1.

I have around $3000 to spend solely on camera equipment. Which lens should I get?

Derec

Most** things I shoot for are for videos. I really love making short films and I just got an increase in budget. Anyway, I wanna know what lens I can get for this. Of course, I really don't wanna spend more than $1500 on lenses. I was told that prime lenses were the best options but I'm still unsure. I was reviewing the canon 85mm f1.8 as a choice and it seems very nice but, idk if I should spend the extra money and go for a 85mm f1.2. It's a hard decision as the second lens gives much better quality. But then there's the other side in which I could get more than one lens if I buy the f1.8. Right now I own a canon 6d and have the 50mm f1.4 lens. I had more but I sold them for personal reasons.
Please help!!

Answer
Here's an APS-C digital camcorder with an interchangeable lens system.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/890796-REG/Sony_NEX_VG30_Camcorder_Body_Only.html

The extra money can be used to shop for NEX lenses. Prime lenses are fast and can be used in low light. Zoom lenses are more versatile without moving out of place. I suggest you get a mix of both.

How can I create this DSLR video tripod rig? Picture included?

aznpimpin8

I want to make something like this:
http://www.romanticchildstudios.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/tru_paz_sterling_pache9.jpg

I see there is a tripod with a fluid/video head, a DSLR camera, an LCD screen and a matte box. The matte box looks like it's connected using 15mm rods.

I know that you can connect a DSLR, LCD screen and a matte box onto a shoulder rig that uses 15mm rods, but how did this guy attach his setup onto a tripod?

I'm fairly new to videography. Is there a fluid/video head that uses 15mm rods?

Answer
Hi "Peaches":

Standard shoulder rigs (especially on large pro camcorders) use what is called a tripod-plate that clicks onto the bottom of the shoulder pad and has the proper mounting threads (usually both sizes) for a tripod's fluid head. The adapter plate typically has a red quick-release lever to allow the camera to return to shoulder-mount use without having to un-thread the fluid-head's top plate.

There are various camera-rail kits that have a "sled" or base that everything mounts onto (Chrosziel, the largest maker of matte box kits and rail sets, calls this a "bridge plate") and that has the same tripod mount thread holes. For a better-detailed photo (with the rods removed) see: http://www.greenteainteractive.com/clients/16x9inc/web/ac-401-124-norods.jpg

If you've shopped around, you've noticed that rail kits are very expensive (hundreds to thousands of dollars), but if you search around YouTube, and other photo/video DIY sites, you'll find some clever low-budget methods to make or adapt a rail kit.

hope this helps,

Best camcorder for under 500?

Emily

I would like a camcorder that has fairly nice picture quality. I don't mind if the camcorder has no sound or records in black and white. And I would like it to record for at least 40 minutes in a single take. Thank you.

Answer
Panasonic, Panasonic, Panasonic!

***And no, I am not a sales rep for Panasonic, I just believe they have the best products out there.***

If you want a serious camcorder not a piece of junk read this, but know that you will end up spending between $400-1000 for a "good" one.

***Remember, miniDV tape format is digital and any video you take with a miniDV camcorder you will be able to use on your computer (to edit and make movies), on your tv (to play back your video), and if you have a DVD recorder you will be able to make DVD's from the video you have on the tape and then the tape becomes reusable***

***I would recommend miniDV camcorders because for the price, what you can get is way better than what you can get with a DVD camcorder. And the tapes are pretty much comparable in price to the DVD's. The DVD camcorders are a newer technology and they haven't perfected everything yet. The only positive thing about the DVD camcorders is that you can get the video on your computer or on your DVR in a matter of seconds. With miniDV, it takes a little longer.***

Panasonic, Panasonic, Panasonic!

You should look for a camera that is similar to the one listed below. The Panasonic PV-GS300 is listed below and is a great camera for around $475. Other good Panasonic brand camcorders include the PV-GS320 and the PV-GS500 but the higher the model number, the higher the price.

â¢10x Optical Zoom and 700x Digital Zoom
â¢2.7â Widescreen LCD Display (123,000 pixels)
â¢3CCD (3 x 800,000 pixel, 1/6â CCD image sensors for best quality and clarity photos and video. The same kind of system used in professional broadcast cameras means crisp color reproduction, thanks to a separate CCD for reds, greens, and blues. (most camcorders just have 1CCD)
â¢Recording system NTSC
â¢SP and LP recording and playback modes (most MiniDV tapes are 60 minutes, but in LP you can record 90 minutes on these tapes)
â¢Video and Photos can be taken in 16:9 (widescreen) or 4:3 (regular)
â¢High-quality Lecia lens (37 mm)
â¢5 preprogrammed auto exposure modes for a variety of shooting options
â¢OIS (optical image stabilizerâ¦minimizes shake and vibration distortion) This is a helpful tool, but if you want still images use a tripod.
â¢Soft skin detail mode (softens details to reduce skin imperfections when shooting close-ups)
â¢MagicPix (allows full color recording in low light)
â¢1-touch navigation with easy joystick control
â¢3.1 MP photos in Photo Mode with build in flash that can be turned on/off. Photo size is determined by what mode you have the camcorder set at. (video/photo and 16:9/4:3) In Video mode, the photos are smaller and quality is not as good as taking a photo in Photo mode.
o.2 MP photo size is 640 x 360
o.3 MP photo size is 640 x 480
o1 MP photo size is 1280 x 960
o2 MP photo size is 1600 x 1200
o2.4 MP photo size is 2048 x 1152
o3.1 MP photo size is 2048 x 1512
â¢Min shutter speed is 1/30 sec
â¢Max shutter speed is 1/8000sec
â¢Built in Stereo Microphone
â¢Stores photos on SD Memory Card (slot located on bottom of camera)
â¢Stores video on MiniDV Digital Tapes
â¢USB 2.0 and Firewire IEEE 1394 compliant
â¢DV, AV, external mic, and USB ports (the included AV cable has RCA and S-Video outputs)
â¢PictBridge (direct printing from camcorder)
â¢Includes MotionDV and Quick Movie Magic software

Whatâs in the box?

â¢PV-GS300 Camcorder
â¢RCA/S-Video cable
â¢AC cable
â¢Battery and charger
â¢Remote control
â¢Hand and shoulder strap
â¢USB 2.0 cable
â¢Software

What you will need to purchase.

â¢MiniDV Digital Video Tapes. Most stores sell these tapes between $7-10.00/tape! Check out eBay for good deals on tapes...you can probably find them for around $3.00/tape.
â¢Carrying case (Circuit City and Best Buy have a good selection, but expect to spend about $20.00.)
â¢Firewire (DV) cable. You donât necessarily need this, but the quality is supposedly better when transferring tapes to DVD. I havenât noticed any difference between the two and I prefer to use the included RCA cables with my DVD Recorder. If you have a laptop or desktop that has a firewire port this will come in handy...but note, a firewire cable is NOT included on most camcorders. You do, however, get a usb 2.0 cable that works just fine. Check out www.accstation.com for cheap, but great quality firewire cables. And if you have windows xp, you can use Windows Movie Maker to edit your videos. You shouldn't need to purchase any extra software.)

Stores and Prices

www.jr.com had it for under $475.00 (including shipping). Definitely check out this site. They offer great customer service, competitive prices, and fast/cheap shipping. They are located in New York and are a very reliable, trustworthy store.

â¢Circuit Cityâ¦around $500.
â¢Best Buyâ¦around $500.

Panasonic makes the best. If I were you, before you make an expensive purchase, do some research...look at customer reviews at www.camcorderinfo.com, www.bestbuy.com, www.circuitcity.com, or at any other review website. Most of those people that answer reviews do it for your benefit...they let you know if it is worth spending $500-1000+ for a certain product.

I have owned a JVC (miniDV), Sony (miniDV, DVD, and hard drive), and Panasonic (miniDV and hard drive) camcorders and I have to say that the Panasonic are the best. They have the best quality...best design...are the easiest to use...and are more durable than JVC and Sony. I use them for my business, which is why I have used and tested so many different kinds.

***PLEASE...go to the stores and try them out...don't make a purchase online without actually holding one and testing out its functions.

***And also be careful...if you do a google search to try and find a store that sells the camcorder that you are looking for, for the cheapest price...do some research and check out that store before you make your purchase. There are many great deals out there, but at what cost? A lot of places will advertise a cheap price but then will try to get you to buy more equipment for your camcorder that should already be in the box! WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS! I can't stress that enough.

GOOD LUCK!

This camera shoots awesome videos and have been one of the top recommended in 2013 so far. It would be perfect for your youtube videos. Which is the Best Camera for Video Recording for Youtube 2013?

Tori Leann

Answer
Define "Best".

For low light conditions, Sony HDR-FX1000 or any other camcorder with a lens diameter of 72mm or larger and Imaging chip 3CCD or 3CMOS system that is 1/3" or larger.

For infrared recording, Sony HVR-A1 in "NightShot" mode to capture monochrome video under zero visible light conditions.

For fast action and slow-motion playback, any GoPro or Contour - these may be best as "pocket cams", too.

For loud audio, any camcorder with manual audio gain control.

For very low audio, any camcorder with an external mic jack and manual audio gain control so an external mic can be used - and the low audio level can be made higher.

Since consumer camcorders can range in price from $80 to about $3,000, and there is such a wide range of video and audio quality issues, please set a budget and tell us what your plans are to capture things to YouTube... then we might be able to provide a little more detail...

What is the best 3CCD Camcorder for Real Estate Video Tours?

Looking to purchase a 3ccd Camcorder. The camera would be used to film real estate video tours. I was a photojournalist for the news for about 10 years, so I know how to bring a bit of creativity when shooting. The technology in video cameras has evolved so much in recent years. I would not need mic inputs as this will only be used for video. 3CCD is a must. I will be mostly shooting in standard def at least to start, but experiment in high def and see how it goes. Most 3CCD camera are high def capable which is great. Video will be uploaded to video sharing sites as well as my website. I am thinking top of the line consumer camcorders should do the trick 500-1000 bucks maybe a bit higher. Needs to be good in artificial light.

they are all good , the Panasonic HDC-SD5 Camcorder is the best one to work with .. but my opinion would be for you to spend a bit more and get a canon t2i or t3i rebel , and use the video from this , they have far superior depth of field , and quality , and being an ex photojourno you have all the skills to make it all look nice , even operate manually .. if it were me I would do that , additionally a quality dslr doesn't go astray for your real estate house photo advertising either

YOu didn't say if your TV was HD or not.

All you need is actually 2 MP for HD

For the best, HD, however you need 1920x1080 pixel matrix otherwise you will be spreading a lesser matrix or have a window box view as with normal TV.

The DRAWBACKS to HD is that it's hard to edit on a computer, expensive to edit and there is no standardization in HD formats yet.

No one, for example, is using HDDVD or BluRay

Mini-DV is probably the most flexible.

The big problem with the JVC Everio is how do you off load it! You have to offload it. If you off load it onto a set top DVD player it will be in 480 line SD resolution of 720x480

If you offload it to your computer it's often difficult and consumes hard drive. Then what do you do with it. Once more you can't burn HD disks!

All you can do is buy external hard drives and save up your material for the day when you can get an HDDVD or Blu Ray burner for your computer at $500 or less. Right now they are closer to $3,000

At least with DVD and Mini-DV tapes you can store them separtely and wait fot he day when maybe it's easier to do things.

Right now you can edit Mini-DV HD on software like Premier Pro, Studio 10, Vegas +DVD and Avid Pro but you still can't burn to anything.

You can put it on a Fresh Mini-DV tape in final edited form.

Also for editing yo need a REALLY FAST computer. A workhorse running Visa Media or XP Pro.

What is the best DVD camcorder for recording school sports events ?

Jay

My sons both play basketball and I want to record their games. Am looking to buy a new DVD camcorder, and I would appreciate any input.

Answer
Leave DVD cameras alone they are, of all camcorder available today the lowest quality. there are loads of problems, with disks not finalising, or reading.

You are better off getting a flash drive camera, light simple and not effect by vibration, or knocks.

you do not give a budget so its hard to help much more, decide on the amount of money you want to spend, then look at any of the large camera makers Sony, Canon, JVC, there will be something there to fit your budget.

Best camera for recording sports?

austin

I play soccer and box. I want to critique myself and Try to get better by watching myself and seeing my mistakes I make in the ring and on the field. What is a good camera under $300 that can record sports well and not get all blurry.

Can anyone recommend a camcorder with these specs?

Barbara Du

I am looking for a decent camcorder and I am having a hard time finding one. I am looking for one that I can take decent pictures [anything above 5 megapixels] and something that is decent with minor concerts.

Camcorder specs I am hoping for:
At least 4GB flash memory [or something that is expandable]
Something that can record at least 2 hours of video [either on medium or high setting]
Concert friendly audio [Something with decent audio quality]
10 or more megapixel still image
Light on camcorder if possible [It is not a must but would be nice]
Digital zoom [doesn't matter how much]
10x or more optical zoom [This is a must]
Something of good video quality [doesn't have to be HD but I would like a camcorder that isn't blurry.]

More info if you want to read:
I am not asking people to search all over the place for a camcorder that I want but if you know of one or has one with specs like these please let me know what it is. I don't need anything too fancy I just want one where I can record my favorite singer [he's not a famous singer so his concerts aren't too packed and they are usually outside in the daytime] and I would also like it too take decent still images. I know that is hard with a camcorder but if it doesn't have over 10 megapixels I can't get it. Also post something with any price, if I like it and can find it for around my price range I will get it. Thank you.
By concert I mean me right in front of the stage with 50 people or less at the concert. These are minor concerts where there isn't even a band, just the singer singing to prerecorded instruments. So by good audio I mean something that doesn't get all fuzzy when I'm in front of the stage recording.

Good helmet cams (can you put them somewhere besides a helmet?)?

nisalurve

I'm looking into getting a helmet cam for a parkour friend of mine for Christmas. I'm on a tight budget and anything under a hundred dollars would be nice. Except he doesn't run around with a helmet on top of his head, and it seems like a bulky thing (yeah, I know, safety is a top priority bla bla bla). So where else could a good helmet camera go?

It doesn't have to be amazing quality, I'd just like something that won't break, that's easy to use, and not too blurry. Noise and other things don't really matter. Thanks!

Answer
Your in luck,
there a camcorder a recently found. It's very small (2inches tall to be exact).
It also designed to be a helmet cam, it has a strap on the back to attach it to any Velcro strap ect.

The best part is that the cost of owning one is only $12 (USA only)

Looking for good hd camcorder for youtube series?

Handstand

My friends and I are currently making a youtube series and are looking for a good high definition camera that's good for making our videos clear and looking good. We are not interested in the flip video camera so please dont post that. Just we are looking for again a good high definition camcorder thats good for making our videos clear and good looking and that can be placed on a tripod. Thanks.

Answer
You would need in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could even come close to the video Quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder video.

Shooting video with a consumer level HD camcorder makes fine videos if nothing in the scene is moving. Any movement, even so much as a raising of ones arm in the video, will cause there to be screen ghosts and artifacts following the movement in the video. And that is not to mention that these camcorders take videos of people that around the edges of the these people is out of focus and blurry all the time.

You can get a Canon ZR 930 for about $300, even cheaper used. It has a Mic Jack, you will appreciate that, it can hook to a tripod. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder. I own three of them, here is my youtube channel, go see video taken by one my 3 miniDV tape camcorders I use. For best, watch the one about Fri the 13th, as I am free wheeling with that video.

camcorder+external mic input.?

Samir

i like to record concerts but my 600d i a little enoying during a concert so i'm looking for a cheap camcorder wit an aperture of 2 or 1.8 or lower doesn't have to be hd. must have atleat 3 hours of battery and externalmic input.

Answer
Hi Samir:

You didn't state a budget (I'll assume UK pounds sterling, since you post from the Y!A UK site), and I'll assume your Samsung camcorder you mentioned in an earlier post doesn't have external mike input.

You have a wide variety of decent camcorders to pick from, since you aren't limiting your choice to HD-only models. For long battery life, I'd recommend a Canon or Sony camcorder (not a DSLR) which accept large "hi Amp-Hr rating" battery packs on the back. (The longer runtime batteries stick out more than the "stock" ones.) And to save money, look for a good used or refurbished Standard Def MiniDV tape model, like one of the Canon ZR-series (or even an old HV-10/-20/-30 which also shoot in HD). You can still shoot 16:9 widescreen in standard def with most good models, and you get your external mike input, if you pick the right model #. You'll get better PCM audio and lower-compression video with MiniDV tape format, and lots longer recording time than your Canon 600D can shoot without shutting down.

I've have good luck on eBay with used Canon & Sony camcorders (typically well-under $100 USD), and even got some good 2200+ mAh battery packs with some.

You won't find anything brand-new with decent runtime, fast lens, nor large-capacity battery pack option that's "cheap", unless you find a close-out from an online dealer for a discontinued model, or a factory refurbished bargain.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Best camcorder with an external mic input?

a_mckenzie

Hey So I'm looking at buying a camcorder. But I need one with and external 1/16" jack so I can record myself playing bass guitar and so It will look and sound clear. My price range is anwhere from $100-$180

Answer
There is no camcorder with a 1/16" mic jack.

If a consumer grade camcorder has an audio-input, it will have a 1/8" (3.5mm) input. Same with dSLRs that have a mic jack and happen to capture video as a convenience feature.

The Kodak Zi8 has audio-in. It does not have manual audio control... so don't play too loud.

For "clear" video images with low-end camcorders, be sure turn on LOTS of lights - a BRIGHT worklight or two (or three) from the hardware store will work well... pocket cams and entry-level consumer cams have small lenses and imaging chip - low light video capture will result in grainy video.

In camcorders, who is better? Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Samsung, or JVC?

Sneetchie1

I'm pretty sure Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung all fall behind the other two. But I'm looking for a professional video camera for under 2000 dollars.
It needs:
good battery life
magnificent quality (The HDest HD)
very good quality in low light shots (dark rooms, nighttime)
good memory
a boom mic
Auto Focus (this is less desirable than the rest)
Any Other Good Functions For An Aspiring Movie Maker.

I currently use a Sony Handycam, and my friend has a JVC camcorder and my other friends have Samsung. The JVC quality seems superior to Sony while Sony seems superior to Samsung. Also, these are the camcorders, not the professional video cameras like i want.

Also, what do real movie crews use?
Under 2500 dollars*

Answer
Under $2,000?

You're not going to get everything. The most difficult is the low-light - your best bet is likelt the Sony HDR-FX7. You will also need to get an optional high capacity recharchable battery. None have a "magnificent" battery in the box.

The FX7 is a 1080i, miniDV tape based camcorder. It has a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio in jack. To use a good XLR mic, you will need an XLR adapter.

Boom mic: Sennheiser; Audio Technica. If you have to go inexpensive, the NRG Research SA-568. It can connect using XLR or 1/8" (3.5mm) connectors. You will also want a couple of wireless lavs - I use Sennheisers. Sony (professional) audio Technica and serveral others make good UHF wireless gear. Be careful you don't buy on-sale stuff in the 700 MHz range - the FCC is clearing that spectrum for other uses.

The FX7 has good manual audio control on the outside of the camcorder. It hae seaprate zoom and focus rings and a LANC port for a wired remote. It can be in auto focus or manual - your pick.

Being a miniDV tape based camcorder, that means your computer must have a firewire port.

"Real movie crews" still use film - not video. Typically, Panavision, Varicam, Arri, CineAlta... maybe Red (Scarlet or One) or maybe Silicon Imaging... And the audio is not captured by the camera but offboard with a very specialized audio recording system (low end would be a Dgigdesign ProTools set up). Though "Paranormal Activity" used a Sony HDR-FX1 or FX1000... Generally, if you watch the movie credits, there is a hint at the end...

SONY, Nikon or Canon camcorders?

lost Man.

Which ones are better as in quality, durability, battery life, etc?
I heard Canons are the top/best out of these but I'm not so sure.
Or PANASONIC?

Answer
nikon does not make camcorders.

Sony partnered with Kodak to make the first camcorder, so they have the most experience.

of the group, Canon has by far the least experience, they used to just slap their brand on Sony made camcorders.

Panasonic and JVC are market partners and their products are often similar.

how to upload videos on youtube??

Q. i have a samsung mini dv camcorder, i finalized the disc, put it in my computer which is brand new, and went to upload it but whenever i did both firefox and internet explorer froze up.
what am i doing wrong?

Answer
youtube accepts file not exceeding 100 MB and 10 minutes, and...

youtube only accepts certain video format.

Using windows movie maker -- you have to save it into the proper file format, that is WMV file (use the "save movie file" on the menu at the top left) before upload..

The WMV file will be smaller in size but still quite good quality.. so uploading it will be faster.

--for best editing....

use windows movie maker (included in your windows machine)... it can help you make beautiful slideshow or video clip(e.g. mixing your songs with pictures/video/etc).... then save it as video file such as wmv file format... finally upload.

or .. Just get those clips you want , save & convert them, and then mix/match with pix/sound/etc using windows movie maker to create new masterpieces....

this will help you.... Use 'zillatube'. This is the easiest (and also the fastest) way.

Zillatube produces mpg/mp3 formats from youtube that are compatible with windows movie maker(or media player), and more.

It is very easy to download and convert videos. Then edit those converted mp3/mpg videos with windows movie maker... save your file as wmv and then upload.

It works very well....just google search for "zillatube"

Help choosing a camcorder please!?

Rita

Hi, I am thionking of buying a new camcorder, I would like to use it to make videos for myself as a hobby, maybe some for youtube etc. Can you recommend anything not too expensive or nerdy? Many thanks!!!

Answer
Consumer Reports online thoroughly tests the top products and gives you thorough unbiased evaluations. Pay $6 for a one month subcription. Most of the consumer-level ones are good in automatic mode, you just press record. The complexity begins when you want to make a dvd or edit it. These things are not THAT hard to learn, but require some research, reading the help files in the software, going to online forums, etc. It's worth the effort. The best resolution comes from mini-dv and you have to have capture software on your pc and a firewire card (most newer pcs come with them. If you do not want to go thru all that, then you want a mini dvd camcorder. No learning is involved, but the tradeoff is poorer quality video. You just take your videos until the twenty minutes or so dvd is full, then finalize it and pop it into your home dvd and watch.

Which Canon camcorder should I buy? m50 review?

cback77

I'm a film student, looking for a decent camcorder for a reasonable price (<500) I was looking at the Canon vixia m50 (I've used canon before and always liked it) which I was gonna pick up on Sunday at best buy. but before I do that I figured I'd ask and see if anyone had any other suggestions, or a review of the m50. Can anyone help?
i'm pretty set on full digital, because i do not have a firewire port on my computer, i am also looking at the m500, which is $100 cheaper,

Answer
Hi Brian:

I know that being in school & having tuition expenses keeps your budget tight. And I know it's "fun" having your own camcorder to shoot with, even if you are a film major & have access to college-owned gear.

But I don't know if that particular Canon Vixia model will give you the best "bang for the buck".

PC Magazine wasn't that impressed with the "value" of the M50, and editing in AVCHD isn't always the easiest, depending on your software platform. Here's the PC Mag review: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404776,00.asp (They did like the M50's low-light video performance, compared to others.)

My personal preference is shooting DV & HDV (cassette format, FireWire interface) which has a higher bit-rate (less compression) than most AVCHD recorders, and I own & use several small Canon palm-corders that I bought used for that. (I do most of my pro shooting on Sony DV/HDV/DVCAM models: HVR-Z1U & HVR-S270, which are out of your price range.)

Canon used to offer their excellent Vixia HV40 (DV/HDV) model (and the older HV30) as a "factory refurbished" option on their CanonUSA website, for $499 (list: $799, street: $599), but I just noticed they added a few as "clearance" items for just $250. I'd snap one of those up before they disappear!
Here's the link: http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_249403_-1

But if your heart is set on the M50, do your pocketbook a favor and save your Best Buy shopping money & take advantage of CanonUSA's $349 factory-refurb offer: http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_310712_-1

I've had good luck buying both refurb and used camera gear (my three Canon ZR-series only cost me $25-$75 each), and if you ended up at your NY-area transfer school, check out B+H Photo (NYC) and their used-gear department, as well as some of the bargains on eBay, from reliable sellers.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

What is the best value HD video camera on the market?

Robert R

I'm considering buying an HD video camera for home movies. I need to know which one will give the biggest bang for the least amount of money possible. I just don't know enough about them to make a good decision.

Answer
You can learn more about the HD format here:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/d/Reviews&level_b=Camcorder&level_c=HD.htm

The best value currently is probably the Canon HV20:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-HV20-Camcorder-Review.htm
it has excellent video quality - you can probably get it for less than $700 if you shop around.

Canon also recently announced the HV30:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Move-Over-HV20-Here-Comes-the-Canon-HV30-34020.htm
so you can expect the price of the HV20 to be even lower when the HV30 is available for sale.
