Good, High Quality Camcorder/Camera?

I am looking to buy a good, high quality camcorder. (I really would prefer a camcorder opposed to a camera, I have a very expensive camera that, unfortunately, doesn't take video.)

I need one the has very nice focus, and would be good to be used for "beauty & fashion" videos.

I don't have a very strict price set, but it should be around $300 - $500, it's OK if its a bit more or less, but I would like one that would be a good fit for me.

With camcorders, good quality starts at around $1200. High quality reaches 5 digits. For your purpose a Sony Handycam and some good lighting should be enough. With a backstage type dressing mirror (the ones with lots of lights around) which is standard for beauty and fashion preparation, you shouldn't have much of a problem.

Sony HDR-XR500 ~ 1000$ or Sony HDR-XR520 ~ 1200$ .. just read the reviews.

The only difference is the 500 has a 120 GB HDD and the 520 has 240 GB HDD

What camcorder to get?

I want a video camera that has good quality, (both video and sound) and Compatable that I can copy the video to my computer with out doing the whole thing of puting it on a tape/DVD or what ever. I want to be able to record somthing, then plug the camera into my computer and have the video. So what should I get?

Definitely get a hard disc drive camcorders. They sell some with a dock or a direct USB 2.0 port and downloads with a single click. I've been looking (user reviews and camcorderinfo.com) for a camcorder. The miniDV have the best quality for the price but the hard disc drives have the convenience of no tapes or DVDs to keep track of and if you buy a longer battery they HDD could record much longer without any worries. DVD camcorders are poorer quality and more expensive, i believe they are being sold just for the convenience of having a DVD you can pop into a player. If you're willing to pay between $600 and $1200 dollars you can get a well worth having HDD camcorder. Like always if you wait a little longer the HDD quality should improve and price drop. There are so many camcorders to chose from - good luck!

This depends on several factors.

Firstly, is your camcorder a mini-dv, hard disc or analog (very old)?

If your camecorder is mini-dv then you can connect your camecorder via "firewire" cable. One end plugs into your computer and the other end into your laptop. My Dell has a port labled "i394" which is the "firewire" port. This is where you plug the cable. If you need to buy a firewire then be careful as some are 4-pin and others are 6-pin. My Dell is Inspiron 9400 and takes a 4-pin firewire. Yours is likely to be the same too. Once connected, if you have the right capture software on your computer you can capture in "realtime".

I'm not sure how hard disc camecorders work - perhaps the same...or there might be a more of a "drag and drop" feature via USB or Firewire.

Without knowing what your camera is, I can't really be more specific in my help to you.
