Lets say I shoot a movie with my digital camcorder and upload it to my computer but the filesize is huge. How can I change things such as image quality, image size, and frame rate?

Free applications are the most desirable but I do have Flash8.

And I am not willing to go through it frame by frame.

Use Super Encoder, Google it.

Youll want to encode to h.264, It has some of the best compression.

Put the framerate at 23 minimum, 30 tops.

Lower the resolution to 400x??? or so.

"Handycam" is Sony's brandname for all their consumer-grade and "prosumer"camcorders. The SOny HDR-FX1000 captures low-compression DV and HDV format video to miniDV tape and captures JPEG still images to SDHC cards.

With a LARGE lens filter diameter (72mm) and LARGE 1/3" 3CMOS imaging chip array, it will do very well under low light conditions (any camcorder can do well under good lighting conditions).

With separate manual zoom and focus rings on the lens barrel, manual audio control on the OUTSIDE of the camcorder (not buried in a menu), LANC port, headphone jack and several other externally accessible controls, the biggest difference between it and a pro-series camcorder is that it has only a stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) audio input (just use a XLR adapter from BeachTek or juicedLink)... and it does not do HDCAM format...

Of course, to get the video from this camcorder's digital tape into your computer, this assumes your computer has a firewire port... and you can add the optional external flash memory recorder from Sony if you don't want to use digital tape.

If you mean to include other manufacturers other than Sony, please let us know that...

suggest a best video recorder in very deep bore well with the depth of more than 200 feet?

Assuming the the well is empty, a wired (not wireless) consumer-grade, outdoor rated, security camera connected to a recorder is probably the less expensive better idea.

Since the camcorder's cable is not designed to carry the weight of the camera and cable, you will want to tie a decent cable to the camcorder and the camcorder's cable. Rope is not good because it stretches too much. Analog cameras use a RCA or BNC analog composite video connection. The recorder can be a simple as an old (working) VHS tape recorder or as current as a digital video recorder typically used for recording security camera video.

I would suggest using a 4-channel DVR and making a set-up where three of the cameras are looking at the walls of the hole while the fourth camera is looking down into the hole. This assumes the hole is big enough... The steel cable and video cable should be joined at 3 foot increments with plastic tie-wraps. Then roll the "combined cable" onto a spool. This way it is easy to roll out and roll in... consider making the cable at each cable tie so you know how deep the camera has gone.

If the bore-hole is small, then only one camera looking down is appropriate.

The camera should have built-in infrared lights so it can see in the dark ("night vision"). It would be silly to add an external light - you'll probably need to add another cable to provide power to the external light...

Swann, Lorex and many others make low-end consumer grade surveillance cameras and recorders suitable for this. They are inexpensive - so when they break, are inexpensive to replace. If you want rugged commercial grade equipment, expect to pay about $3,000 for a camera and $7,000 for a recorder.

Is the quality of video from Full HD Camcorders still lower than DVCs?

Nowadays you have full HD camcorders that are supposed to deliver best picture. So are the NEW camcorders not delivering as good picture as DVCs.
By DVC I meant digital video cassettes. So I was not too far off the terminology end. But what is interesting is that most brands are now just focusing on HDD and flash camcorders and not MiniDVs anymore.

I agree with Iridflare.

But you need to consider what is "best". And the assumption is you are referring to miniDV tape ("digital video cassette" is a bit generic).

In video, generally speaking, less compression of the digital video stream is *WAY* better than lots of compression.

As well, the way a video format handles groups of frames can have a substantial impact on video quality.

Last, for this short discussion, anyway, you should learn a bit about the different video formats available.

Since you referred to "Full HD", you should know that this is a not a technical term. It is a marketing term. While it is accurate to say the "progressive" capture method has some advantages over interlaced capture, the fact is that anything over 480 horizontal lines of video is considered high definition - in consumer cams, that is usually 720 or 1080. Red and Silicon Imaging have been doing Ultra-high definition for a while.

Next, add the video compression layer. The easiest observable method is to understand the data rate of the video. Higher data rate means less compression is used. More compression means more discarded data so lower data rate. Higher is better. DV and HDV (typically captured to miniDV tape; but there are a few ways to use flash memory and special external storage devices) are clocked at 25 mbps. XDCAM, HDCAM, DVCAM, DVCPRO and DVCPRO HD have a similar data rate. Typically, consumer grade camcorders using non-tape storage top out at about 17mbps - though there are a few at the higher end that get to 24 mbps in the AVCHD/MTS file environment. The new Canon XF series camcorder record to an interesting MXF format and delivers 50mbps data stream - but is clearly not a consumer cam.

You can do your own research on GOP and how poorly AVCHD handles video with fast action in the event of a dropped frame.

BUT, it is all about skill. Someone with a good, trained eye can capture good, compelling, content on the least expensive camcorder... while someone with no skill would likely capture garbage with the best available equipment.
