I have a firewire cable that has 4 pins on each side. I am trying to connect my Samsung Mini-DV to my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, but it is not working. I have used my camcorder with firewire before on my desktop and it worked fine. Why isn't my camcorder working with my laptop? I am using the iLink port on the laptop. I am trying to transfer videos to Windows Movie Maker. Please help me! Thanks!

Answer
if you were able to connect successfully to the desktop, then that pretty much rules out the camcorder & firewire cable as the problem. Try to attach another firewire device (such as an external hard drive) to your laptop to confirm if the problem is with the firewire port on your laptop.

How do I stream video from a Sony camcorder through a streaming website without requiring a computer?

I have a Sony MiniDV camcorder with Firewire or USB output. I'd like to stream this video live using a live streaming website such as livestream.com without having to hook up the camera to a computer. In other words, is there an appliance like the Slingbox that can take video from the camcorder, connect to the internet and directly stream it out or stream it through one of the live streaming sites?

Answer
Since you did not tell us which Sony camcorder, we don't know if it supports USB streaming. Typically, the USB port is used only for trnasferring stills off a memory card.

I don't think the SlingBox supports firewire.

The other option that should work is to connect the camcorder's composite AV cable to one of the SlingBox's composite video (and audio) input...

Since we don't know what you will be using the camcorder's streamed video for, you need to know that video camcorders typically have an auto-power down mode that is designed to protect the camcorder's electronics... Many times, the timer on the automatic power down is not settable to "Never".
