I have been looking at camcorders for months now and finally decided on one. I was down to two picks one was the Canon Z700 and the other was the Panasonic GS59 I finally chose the Panasonic and made my purchase. I went to every website possible to find all the consumer reviews on all th models I was looking at and for price range these two had the best reviews. The Panasonic was 379.00 and the Canon was 399.00. I was looking at the DVD ones two but the reviews were the lowest and everyone said that they had problems with the clarity of the dvd and sometimes they wouldn't play back. I then checked out the hard drive ones which seemed nice and the reviews were good but I didn't want to spend over 500.00 for one . If you wind up getting a mini dv like I did you can still transfer the video to DVD on a PC I have done it several times already and the picture is great.Or just hook the camcorder up to your TV and it will play as is.

The top HD camcorders for under $500 are all JUNK. It would take you in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could even compete withe video Quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder.

consumer level HD camcorders have 3 issues. 1) Fuzzy, blurry, out of focus areas around people in the HD video. 2) Any movement in front of a recording HD camcorder shows up in the finished video with screen ghosts and artifacts following the movement, ruining the video. 3) Lack of record times. 1 hour, go home, no way to change storage or continue shooting. Some offer a whole whopping 30 minutes. What, record 1/3 of the event then put the camcorder away or leave.

You can get the Canon ZR960 for $250 or the ZR930 for about $300. Both of these camcorders are MiniDV tape based. Both camcorders have a Mic jack. Both of these camcorder can take better quality video and audio than any sub $3000 camcorder.

Connecting Canon MiniDV camcorder to Mac?

Hey, so I have a canon GL2 MiniDV camcorder which I've been trying to connect to my macbook pro (running most recent version of OSX Mountain Lion), but have been having trouble getting iMovie to recognize it. I'm using a firewire cable, but nothing appears under "devices" in neither iMovie nor Finder. The camcorder does recognize when the FireWire is plugged in to the laptop, however. I don't know if the GL2 came with software, as I got it from a friend. If anyone knows of some sort of compatibility software or driver, please let me know. (I tried using photostich, but the dialog box tells me I need to insert the CD-ROM containing the following software (PhotoStich) that came with your Canon product).
when I go to firewire under hardware, it says "Warning: Unable to list firewire devices. imovie is still not recognizing it, and neither is finder (the devices tab pops up on the left side of Finder under the "favorites" and "shared" tab.

Starting from the top...

With the camcorder off, connect the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer's firewire poer (not USB) with a firewire cable. In your case, a 4-pin (camcorder side) to 9-pin (MacBook Pro side) firewire cable.

Power up the camcorder and put it into PLAY (VCR) mode. See page 35 in the manual. You do not need any software from Canon. Also be sure the "Card/Tape" switch is in the Tape position.

There is no "Devices" in iMovie or the Finder. Under the Apple, you can select "About this Mac" and click on "More Info" - then under "Hardware" select "Firewire". Since "PhotoStitch" is used for stills, it has nothing to do with video connectivity.

If the camcorder has been plugged/unplugged from the DV port with the camcorder on, it is possible to blow the firewire port - so do not do that. It is an expensive repair. ALWAYS power down the camcorder before plugging in or unplugging the DV cable to the camcorder.

Anyway... with the camcorder correctly connected to the MacBook Pro with the firewire cable and in Play/VCR mode, launch iMovie and name the project. When you get into iMovie, under File, select Import or Capture... it is a realtime capture (and should appear on the Mac). 30 minutes of video on the digital tape will take 30 minutes to import.

Assuming the camcorder menu items are at default, there is noting n the camcorder that needs to be set. If any changes were made and not put back, now is a good time to put them back.

The CDROM that came in the box with the camcorder has only Windows-specific software on it and nothing is on there your MacBookPro needs.

Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

What's a good HD camcorder for small time movie filming?

Now I know the question in a sense sums up what I want to know but I might as well add to it... right? Anyway, I need to get around four HD camcorders that will be used to film a total 98 hours of footage and then edited together for the final video> I would prefer the footage not to be compressed by the camcorder as to preserve quality and such. I have built a computer for mass amounts of editing(I won't list the full specs but I'll say it's powered by a Intel Core i7 920) with 4tb of storage(2x 2tb HDDs) so the uncompressed size of the source footage of the camcorders shouldn't be a worry.

If you need any more information or anything like that please just say, and I will be more then happy to add more.

Review: This camcorder is from the Sony Professional division with pro level warranty support. Sound is 70% of the experience and this camcorder delivers pro level XLR connectors with 48V power. For best sound results manually set the volume as high as possble keeping the peaks below 0db. The CMOS sensor produces amazing HD quality. A head shot of a person wearing a ball cap facing into strong direct sun with a deep shadow across their face does not blow out the highlights and shows full details in the shadow. I'm using Sony Vegas 7 to edit the results and I'm very happy with both the camcorder and Vegas.

This is bigger than the small consumer camcords but is about the same size as my old Sony Digital 8 camcorder and it's smaller than any other pro camcorder. Pro shooters are always amazed and comment on how small it is. Nothing produces this level of pro results without spending a lot more money.

While as good or better than the current crop of small HD consumer camcorders for shooing in low light there are better pro models such as the Sony Z1 and V1 for low light. The manual settings are via the touch screen and a not included PDA stylus is a must have to keep finger prints of the screen. 24fps can be done but you need Cineform Connect HD to do the pulldown from the Sony CF24 as the native CF24 is choppy until you use Cineform. If 24fps is a must the Sony V1 is a better choice.

The Vixia hf s100 is an excellent camera. I just got it and I spent the weekend testing it. I didn't find any precise review for the postproduction workflow on Mac so I wrote my own for shooting in 24p mode. You will need fcpro 6.0.5 or fcexpress4. Connect the camera, select log and transfer with apple prores codec. The files will go into the scratch disk under the project name (mine is vixia test). All the files will be 29.97 fps interlaced (as a result of the way the camera deals with 24p in 60i).
Download a software called Jes DEINTERLACER, it's a freeware. drag and drop the files from the scratch disk and then select inverse telecine at 23.98 with direct export to apple intermediate codec. it' really fast. You'find the telecined files inside the same folder with the same name followed by the word PROJ (added by Jes). now put all the PROJ files in a folder you want, create a new project with timeline settings 23.98 fps, apple intermediate codec, import the folder with the footage (the one with the files ending in PROJ) and that's it. Start editing. You can easily go to pal or ntsc (my Vixia is NTSC) if you shoot 24p. I suggest to keep the color mode on when shooting in 24p. I haven't tested 30p or 60i as I don't need it. Hope this helps. The camera is an excellent one, nice in low light, nice audio quality from additional mic (depends on your mic quality, keep the levels automatic, much better than manual). I am super happy with the camera overall (as always when there is too much light it won't look good, I suggest an ND filter). Remember that if you want to go full quality HD you will need at least a class4 sdhc card (no need for the expensive class6). Also from my tests VOLTAICHD doesn't work very well to do the telecine. It is very slow (like 10 times slower than the process I just described) and the footage looks not good at all. So save the 40 bucks they want for it and use the free JES (what a nice piece of software....). The only annoing thing is that following my process you will phisically need the camera to be connected to your mac and you won't be able just to drag and drop the footage from the memory card (to do so you will need VOLTAIC to batch process the mts files created by the camera). Well, I'd rater get another memory card for the same price of the software and import the footage after the shooting. Good job Canon! ciao

1. Greeting
Indians traditionally greet with hands put together in front of the chin saying` namasteâ or `namaskaramâ. 2. Attire
Indian women are expected to dress conservatively and modestly. Tourists should avoid tank tops, short skirts and shorts when going to public places. Women dressed in tight and short dresses could attract undesirable attention. Men should avoid going out bare-chested.
Although states have different climates, lightweight, loose yet covering cotton clothing is suitable for summers. 3. Food
While going into a restaurant please check whether they serve non-vegetarian food as for large number of Hindus, eating meat is a religious taboo. Beef is not available in most Indian restaurants as the cow is considered a sacred animal by Hindus. Most religious places do not permit shoes inside their premises. In some places, there are restrictions on the movement/entry of persons from other religions. 7. Use last name with the title
People should be addressed by their last name while meeting for the first time. Use the honorific and their last name e.g. Mr. Ahmed, Mrs. Dubey etc. Whenever speaking with somebody older, try to be as respectful as required.
8. Tipping
At hotels and restaurants tipping is a norm. About 10% of the bill is usually the norm. Tipping the cab drivers is not necessary. Hotel staff is normally tipped only at the end of the stay.
9. Lines and crowds
India can at times present a disorderly and noisy face. There is usually a queue for everything â public transport, entrance into tourist spots etc. But what could be daunting for the tourist is the tendency of many to break the queue and rush in. Well, here's the short answer: decent dslr's cost more than $400.00. Unless you already have a collection of lenses, that pricepoint is too limiting, and you can buy a much better non-slr digital camera with decent flexibility. If ya gotta, then my choice is the Olympus Evolt E-410 10 MP Digital SLR, which I've seen for less than that on sale. Understand, that's the body only- a good lens will generally run at least another $150.00...
I totally understand the frustration- the choices are just too limiting. Companies like Nikon, Cannon et al want you to pay a premium for being able to use lenses from your old 35mm slr on your new digital unit. My personal preference has more to do with my shooting style than anything else, because I generally shoot outside in daylight and do both distant objects and extreme closeups. My choice at around $400.00 is the OLYMPUS SP-560UZ 8.0 MP. It runs about $340.00; it has an 18x zoom and can focus as close as .4" from objects for killer closeups of flowers, insects, etc. Color quality is good under daylight conditions too, so it takes decent portraits and landscapes as well as really good shots of wildlife (18x zoom is very helpful). That leaves enough in your budget to buy a 2gb memory card. One quirk- xD cards are all it takes, which are prone to corruption when mishandled and have a proprietary format- leave your card in the camera. Okay, so I bought an HV20 from ontimedigital.com, but that website is a scam, so now I'm looking for any good HD video camera, using tapes would be preferred, under $400.00. Does anyone know a website (or store) that sells HD video cameras for that? thanks.

Amateur movie making professional camcorder suggestion?

I'm looking to buy a professional movie making camcorder. I have looked around I have been on Google and I have entered top 10 best movie making camcorders. They don't really lower my searches down. I'm looking for something that has good sound quality. Something that takes good videos inside and outside. Something that i can use to enter film festivals with and stuff like that. I was also wondering if anybody knew any good movie making software. Thanks to all that can help me.

Camcorders which use Mini Digital Video tapes (popularly called mini DV) are the best. Such camcorder records digital video on tape. A Mini DV camcorder captures video in what is known as Real Time format and thereby stores more detail than camcorders which uses DVD, flash memory and hard disc.

Videos shot from cameras other than that which uses tape/Mini DV, are not meant for editing. As such they don't help in making videos worth keeping for future.

All Hollywood videos are shot with cameras which uses tape like Mini DV.
Besides, getting familiar with tapes also helps in going professional as all professional cameras use tapes, not DVD or hard disc or flash memory.

Personally, I'm using a Sony HDR HC9E for making semi-professional videos.
Sony HDR HC9E which is HD is a simi professional camera and it is moderately priced.

My other camera is Sony DCR HC27. Its really a cheap one which shoots great video.
You can go for the latest Sony camcorders which has the series "DCR HC__".
The DCR HC__ series are real cheap yet captures great Video that even TV stations accepts footages taken by this mini DV cam.

If Panasonic is your choice, and if u have a budget tht much, get a GS300 instead, its only a step down frm their flagship consumer miniDV cam, the GS500 (but many prosumers still give the older model GS400 a higher mark).
Pana's range of miniDV camcorders r good. They offer 3 CCDs instead of 1, resulting more vivid and trueer color reproductions.
Also, if video quality and ease of editing r your main priorities, get a miniDV cam. The format is still superior compared to DVD/Hardisk-based formats on newer cams. Thats why pro video guys r still using tape-based camcorders. Tapes r also cheap n can be reused many times (but keep it max 5 times) and stick to 1 brand of tape only.

Canon HV20 no questions. Maybe the HV30, but I don't think it is good enough to pay that much more, almost 40 bucks. And also you will want a decent shotgun mic if you want good audio which could run another 100 dollars. So if you have a $600.00 budget this is what I would get....

Question about my JVC camcorder?

I have a JVC Digital Video Camera GR-D250U and I was wondering how I can get stuff off of it onto my PC? Is there a place where I can put a memory card or a USB I can use? The camera takes pictures and I would like to use it to take my daughters Christmas pictures since I broke my regular camera.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok your video camera is a mini-dv (tape) the only way to get the video off it is via firewire IEEE1394. Check your computers has a firewire port, go to device manager and look for it. if it has then you only need a cable if not then you need to get a card and cable you can get them both for about $45. install the card very simple, and turn the computer on. windows will sort everything out for you.

connect the camera to the computer and turn the camera to play/edit mode. Again windows will detect it and install its own drivers. you can then use movie maker to capture the video, open WMM and go to capture video. Its that simple/

as for taking stills, look at the spec could not see that it does.

A friend of mine has a television and a cable box (unconnected to aerial), but no license - although never watches TV [really uses it for just video games and playing back camcorder footage].

Does anyone know what happens during a TV license inspection? Has anyone ever had an inspector come in to their house after allowing them in (they really need a warrant to).

If my friend hid their TV (Virgin Media box) in their room, would there be any problems with just having a TV and no license (no broadcast media is being watched in this home at all).
