What is currently the best camcorder brand for video taping? I'm looking for great audio and great quality, but inexpensive! please help!

How much sound quality is lost with camcorder formats that result in greater compression?

I want to buy a camcorder to record myself playing music and am deciding on format. I understand that videos made with HDD and flash memory camcorders will have greater compression--how much will this affect the sound?

the audio on miniDV is uncompressed 48k, 16 bit sampled digital sound. If you get a camcorder that allows exernal mics you can achieve truly professional results. Typical DVD audio compression is 7:1 MPEG3 which is reasonably good. I believe HDD and flash is higher compression, but i don't have a number for you.
