In regards to SD (sandisk) memory card, can you define the different Class Performance ratings?

I've seen class performance ratings of 2, 4, and 6 but I'm not sure what determines the class.

Different brands offer better quality.
Cheap chinese junk is suitable only for mp3 players
High quality is for stuff like mpeg camcorders or high megapixel cameras.
I only use sandisk, the quality is there. PNY is ok, but it's expensive.
Unless you have some crazy camera, forget about the speed ratings.
