Full HD Camcorder vs 1080/60p capable compact camera?

mike angel

I want to buy a Sony HX20V which can shoot great photos and also 1080/60p videos. I know that its not primarily a video device but it has a 18mp sensor so will its videos be as good (or at least slightly +/-) as a Full HD camcorder that I could buy for the same price? I don't want to go for the Handycam as
1) Poor still image quality(hats the reason because of which I'm upgrading from my old Canon Camcorder) and
2) a 2mp( or slightly better) sensor.
So can I enjoy 1080/60p videos shot from a HX20V on a large HDTV? I know the resolution will be good but what I'm worried about is color accuracy and overall video quality.

Answer
A camcorder only can use about a 2MP sensor. Remember that the camcorder does scans, not stills.

Yes, you can enjoy the HD recordings on any HDTV.

You might want to read the differences between a digital camera that does video and a real camcorder.

Camcorder capable of 1080/60p?

Ace

Looking for a camcorder that can shoot at 60 progressive frames per second, my budget is $800.

Any suggestions? :)

Answer
camcorders are nice, but you run in to issues with lens which you cannot swap out.
You can get a Canon 600D (shots at 1080 and 60fps) with 18-55mm for 800. Later when you have money you can move on to better lens and movies will dramatically improve.
