What is night mode on a camcorder?

Hayden

My digital camcorder say Night Mode- On-Off I turn it on and it does not do anything

Answer
Night mode or night shot usually means the camera is sensitive not only to visible light, but a short way into the infa-red as well. It has an infa-red light, so you can actually videotape things in complete darkness, as long as they are within a few feet of the camera.

But (there are always buts)

Night mode, being based on infa-red light, does not capture colors the way we see them. Usually it comes out as green-and-white. If you've ever seen a movie where someone was using night vision gear, that's what it'll look like.

What cheaper camcorder should I buy that has night mode?

JB

Hi everyone, I know this is asked a lot, but I want to buy a camcorder between 200-475$. It needs to have pretty good quality (For posting on youtube, etc.), a night-mode (preferably 0 lux/ Total darkness!), and if possible vista compatibility or at least a usb hook-up. Anyone have any ideas!? Thanks!

Answer
I would look into the aiptek a-hd, not a great camera but it's selling for around 100$ which is cheap enough to buy another one in a year or 2. Has a night mode and does 720p video on an sd card. The videos supposedly also play in your xbox 360 as well.
