I am looking to start recording guitar covers soon and I was wondering what will I get the best quality recording my videos with. I plan to do this a very basic way and record the audio of my guitar and video all at the same time. What will give me the best sound? A camcorder? A digital camera? A webcam? Thank you!

On board microphones on cameras don't have great audio quality. In my opinion, the sound is the key for music covers so you should think about getting a decent camera and a nice microphone or recorder. I am a big fan of Canon S100 so you should look into that. A camcorder like the Sony Handycam should have a stereo microphone on board. If you don't have much to invest, check out some camcorders. They have pretty decent sound coming out from their on board mic.

Digital cameras take video nowadays. You don't need camcorders anymore!! Go with the digital camera! I haven't heard of camcorders taking pictures. But digital cameras are also smaller (from what I've seen).

How can you tell how long a camcorder will record for?

Q. I've never bought a camcorder before. I want to get a cheap one to use as a security camera. It has to be able to record for 8 hours nonstop.

Firewire over USB for streaming Video?

I have AVI files on my external hard drive and I stream them wirelessly to my Xbox 360 to watch on my tv. I have the HDD hooked up to my laptop via a USB 2.0 cable. My question is, will hooking it up via a firewire cable improve my buffer times at all? Fast Forwarding and Rewinding are studdery and I'm wondering if I can improve it at all. Thanks

Here's the question: are your videos stuttering on the laptop, when you play them there? If so, you might have something weird going on there, and maybe Firewire would change it. But ordinarily, USB 2.0 for HDD is just as fast as Firewire, give or take (depends somewhat on the chip in the external HDD).

Chances are, the stuttering is due to your wireless. USB 2.0 runs at 480Mb/s, and while that's not all data transfer, it's fast. DVD quality video in MPEG-2 runs at up to 9Mb/s.. high definition camcorder video in MPEG-2 runs at 25Mb/s, captures from on-air HDTV run at 19.4Mb/s or less.

But then there's wireless Ethernet. Since you didn't mention the wireless adaptor you're using (it's not built-in on the X-Box), you probably have either 802.11b or 802.11g, both called "wifi". The top possible speed over 802.11b is 11Mb/s... but that's one-way only, and just one link. Your actual performance will be at best around half of that, less if you have other computers on the network, or if you do not connect at full speed. For the 802.11g spec, the max speed is 54Mb/s, but as before, that's one-way only, and it, too, drops down based on distance, interference, and other computers being on the net.

You might improve things by relocating the wireless adaptor for a stronger signal, or adding a larger antenna (if it's interchangeable). But even at that, streaming higher bitrate video over 802.11g is chancy at best, and over 802.11b it's pointless. I have wired Ethernet (1000Mb/s) between my computer room and my media room, just because of this.

Go to cnet.co.uk, and click on 'Camcorder Reviews', then visit 'Editor's Top Rated' and 'Most Popular Reviews'. Most of the information you need would be on that website.

You can buy a decent digital camcorder for around £300, but if you want something a little more professional, like the Sony HDR-FX1, be prepared to pay around £2000. You may want to go for something in between, like the JVC Everio GZ-MC500 which, as they mention on Cnet, is suitable for amateur film-makers. For a cheap camcorder, Argos is selling camcorders for around £150, such as the Samsung VPD361 Mini DV Camcorder. Don't ever buy second-hand camcorders - there would definitely be something wrong with it; why else would the seller sell it off?

Look out for the newer models of the old model - a newer version would have extra, improved features added to the previous version. Always look for what's best for you and be clear with what aspects are more important to you than others. For me, it's recording time, battery life and visual motion quality; for you it may be visual quality, design and editing software, everything else may be secondary (no camcorder is perfect, there's always a flaw). Go for HD camcorders, the visual quality (graphics) is much better than non-HD camcorders. Also, makes sure you know the definitions to certain technical jargon, such as CCD. Make sure all the accessories and cables are compatible with your computer.

Before purchasing a camcorder, go to electronic shops e.g. Dixons, and try out different camcorders to see which is best for you. If you see something you fancy, then purchase it online as it's much cheaper that way. When you go to the shops, don't act like you've never had a camcorder before and pretend to know your stuff... or you may get conned! Yes, camcorders do work on Vista. After looking through all the possibilites, I'm probably going to buy the Sony Handycam HDR-SR8.

If you're going to make a video for Youtube with your new camcorder, don't shoot videos of yourself, it's just sad and corny.

By disc you you mean the installation disc for your camcorder or do you mean a mini dvd disc.
If you have a mini dvd camcorderâ¦.
You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer 's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.
If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorderâ¦.
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

I'm a camera salesman and my experiences with this
sort of Chinese cheap "camera's" is awful, to say the
least.

The lens, in most cases, is made of plastic and so is
the rest of the cam. It surprises me again and again
how they manage to get such a crappy quality with
the specified resolutions.

Most of the times this type of cams don't even have
an usb connection.
You don't have to spend $300 to buy a decent product.

Hello,

I myself am looking for the right film camera for me, but the camera you say that you are thinking of getting, is not really for filming. Yes, the cameras such as the Canon Rebel T2i, Canon 50d/7D/550D are great cameras, they are not for film. Although they shoot film, they are for picture quality, and mainly if you want to use these cameras for filming, the quality will be OKAY unless it is still footage. What you want, is a camcorder which are mainly for film.
For example, the Panasonic Pro AG-HMC150 3CCD AVCHD 24fps Camcorder (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-AG-HMC150-AVCHD-24fps Camcorder/dp/B001DKELYC/ref=pd_zg_rss_tr_e_172421_2) is slightly over the price of the Canon 7D. BUT, this camera is strictly for film, while the canon 7D, or the camera you are looking at, are basically for picture. So all in all, what you want is a camcorder and you can look at this site that gives you the "Top Rated Camcorders of 2010-2011", and it will display the price, features and reviews for many camcorders!

The Canon Rebl T2i shoots some pretty great video just as good as the Canon 7D, and I will post a link in the "sources" of some really helpful filming tips, where they are using the Rebel T2i to film the video.

But for the price under $800, I would look on that site for a handheld HD camcorder, or get the camera you want, but the Canon 7D is a very good option with proper lenses too, but the price is steep of $1500-$2000, plus $300-$400 for a good lens. :/
-Also you must remember that the camera is not what gives you good quality; it may help, but it is very minimal. You will need a good Lens for your camera to give it the best quality possible, and also look into lighting, and adjusting color contrasting and color grading when you are EDITING the film (look up some tutorials on youtube to adjust color to give it that cinematic look) so that way you have the best possible image. (I will give some links in the bottom that helped me with some film makig tips) Hope this helps :)

If I'm going to spend more than a hundred bucks on an item or somewhere around there, I do extensive research first to know I got the best bang-for-the-buck and, consequently, dodge any potential future buyer's remorse.

I've realized that the time I spend doing my product comparisons is often time that others don't have so I may as well share what I can.

I'll start by saying that you'll see my "Verified Amazon Purchase" on the Flip HD Ultra Camcorder review because, obviously, that's the one I wound up buying and I'll share with you why. But what I like in a camcorder may not suit your own needs so I'll break it down and let you decide what's best for you via what I found out:

IMPORTANT NOTES:
F: Best low-light performance for the mini cameras (though not perfect at all) and least amount of blurring and dropped frames in my opinion. You can get an underwater case for this one! Though that may sound crazy for a Texan, we use the camera non-stop on vacations and even when we aren't IN the water, we are around the water...on boats, in the sand with sea mist, etc. Then we can dive in and record the fish. Comes preloaded with flipshare software...just plug in to computer and it pops up.
M: Colors don't appear as good on the Mino as the other cameras. Thinnest camera. Make sure you get the one that only comes in the color aluminum or brushed metal. If it comes in any other colors it is the 1st generation MinoHD and they improved upon that one in the newer models. Great audio. Better shooting in low light than most mini cameras. Camera comes preloaded with FlipShare software. Can get still images through flipshare software.
CL: Decent filming in low light. Software is preloaded in camcorder.
K: The only camera in my list without image stabilization which results in very shaky filming. The others have built-in image stabilization to help correct it. What appears to be metal in picture is actually a chrome colored plastic. That said, this had the largest viewing screen of all of them. 2.4" Very poor in low light and seemed to have far more shaking and blurring due to lack of image stabilization. First off, HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

My Canon ZR MiniDV tape camcorders can do all you list and more, in Manual mode, as that is the only mode I shoot in. And I would put my MiniDV tape camcorders in any contest regarding video Quality against any HD Camcorder under $3000, and i know I would win.

Most consumer grade digital cameras can't take very good quality videos AND most consumer grade camcorders can't capture good quality pictures.

Although, many camcorders are shooting up to say, 5 mega pixel images. And some digital cameras can record video in 640 x 480, which is not too bad for YouTube, etc.

I own the camera at the link below. It takes awesome images and the video is okay for my use. It's just standard definition. But I have high definition video cameras I use to for video.

It's one of those things where you have to decide which is more important to you, high quality images or high quality video.

To answer your question directly:
Sony HDR-SR11, HDR-SR12
Panasonic *might* have one or two; Canon has none.

Because the crowd noise and possibility of a band or other loud audio, hard disc drive based camcorders are not recommended for your stated environment. The vibration from that loud audio can cause the hard drive heads to park and no video will be recorded. This is a known problem with hard drive based camcorders. So is high altitude, but we won't go there at the moment...

Flash memory and miniDV tape based camcorders do not have this problem with vibration. For standard definition, flash memory, the Canon FS10, FS11 and FS100 have a mic jack; Flash memory camcorders save to the same file formats used by hard drive camcorders. For high definition or standard def miniDV tape, the Canon HV20 and Sony HDR-HC9 meet your requirements. These are all "least expensive" - the issue is getting amic jack - most camcorders do not have this. There are more cameras that cost more that have audio-in capabilities.

For prices, there are two kinds - the ones you can buy and know you will get what you pay for or potential scams. Do comparison pricing - if the price looks too good to be true, it probably is. I have found B&H Photo and Adorama are reputable online dealers. Check at the CNET camcorder forum for horror stories on certain scam sites.

DVD camcorders are useless. Don't waste any time on them.

I heard that the Intel i7 processors were amazing. I think this will be really good for what I do. I make Gaming videos with my HD PVR. CONSOLE GAMES. The only PC game I play is Minecraft, so I won't be doing a lot of gaming, strictly video editing and rendering.

Will this computer be great for rendering at blazing speeds? It takes my current computer around 10 hours to render a 35 minute HD video. I want that to be rendered in at least in an hour.

Everything looks good but I would definitely get a bigger HD and a more powerful power supply. 300W probably won't be nearly enough power with that setup, and 500GB doesn't seem like all that much space nowadays, especially for storing videos.

I am in a video class so I decided to get a camcorder for videoing but I also need to take good pictures with it. How come Windows Movie Maker makes the quality of my video clips horrible?

I filmed a video with an unregistered hypercam that films the computer screen without a camcorder and the quality looked great until I imported it to Windows Movie Maker. As soon as I dragged the clips of video to the storyboard or timeline the quality became unwatchable. Why is this happening and how do I fix it so the quality remains good.

"affordable" means different things to different people.

The "best" and no stated budget?

High end? Red One. Maybe Silicon Imaging.

Pro grade? Sony XDCAM series, HDCAM series; Canon XLH or XH series; Panasonic AG-HVX series; JVC GY-HM100.

Prosumer? Sony HDR-FX1000... or jump to the higher end of the HVR series.

Consumer? Canon HV40.

If the above are to much, then consumer cams in the standard definition Canon ZR960 or FS100 are decent.

As the cameras get less expensive, the lenses and imaging chips get smaller and their low-light behavior diminishes. Manual controls get buried in a menu and audio control is lost.

Pocket cams less than about $250 can work well IF you stay within their limitations... Always under good light, always with audio that is not loud and not soft, always on some sort of steadying device (tripod, chair, table, whatever) and never handheld. Never use digital zoom. Stray from these recommendations - or try to make a camcorder work outside its specifications - and any cam will not provide acceptable results.
