What video camera should I get?

best quality camcorder 2011 on HD LED Flashlight Camera Car DVR Camcorder Review D016 | PRLog
best quality camcorder 2011 image
Q. I'm an amateur film maker. And though I want the quality of my videos to be good, I still don't want to spend a crap load of money on a camera. What's the highest quality camera I could purchase and still have the price be reasonable.

Answer
I originally wasn't going to spend so much on a new camcorder. I had bought the Canon HF 100 a few years ago, and was fairly happy with it. It was nice, but definitely had its drawbacks. So, I started researching Canon's new line for 2011 and was torn between the M40 and G10. Having the new CMOS Pro sensor was a must. Everything I read about the low light capabilities sold me. Basically Canon went with a smaller pixel count (exactly 1920 x 1080), which in turn makes the pixels larger and better in low light shooting. I originally bought the M40 and was very happy with it, but started to realize it wasn't fitting all my needs. That went back, and I went with the G10. I have not looked back since!

What is a good camera for film and cinema?

andrew

Ok, I want to start making my own films. I was thinking of getting the Canon Rebel T2i but I dont know if it is a good camera. Please give me some advice, thanks! Oh and i want the price to be under $800. Thanks!

Answer
Hello,

I myself am looking for the right film camera for me, but the camera you say that you are thinking of getting, is not really for filming. Yes, the cameras such as the Canon Rebel T2i, Canon 50d/7D/550D are great cameras, they are not for film. Although they shoot film, they are for picture quality, and mainly if you want to use these cameras for filming, the quality will be OKAY unless it is still footage. What you want, is a camcorder which are mainly for film.
For example, the Panasonic Pro AG-HMC150 3CCD AVCHD 24fps Camcorder (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-AG-HMC150-AVCHD-24fps Camcorder/dp/B001DKELYC/ref=pd_zg_rss_tr_e_172421_2) is slightly over the price of the Canon 7D. BUT, this camera is strictly for film, while the canon 7D, or the camera you are looking at, are basically for picture. So all in all, what you want is a camcorder and you can look at this site that gives you the "Top Rated Camcorders of 2010-2011", and it will display the price, features and reviews for many camcorders!

The Canon Rebl T2i shoots some pretty great video just as good as the Canon 7D, and I will post a link in the "sources" of some really helpful filming tips, where they are using the Rebel T2i to film the video.

But for the price under $800, I would look on that site for a handheld HD camcorder, or get the camera you want, but the Canon 7D is a very good option with proper lenses too, but the price is steep of $1500-$2000, plus $300-$400 for a good lens. :/
-Also you must remember that the camera is not what gives you good quality; it may help, but it is very minimal. You will need a good Lens for your camera to give it the best quality possible, and also look into lighting, and adjusting color contrasting and color grading when you are EDITING the film (look up some tutorials on youtube to adjust color to give it that cinematic look) so that way you have the best possible image. (I will give some links in the bottom that helped me with some film makig tips) Hope this helps :)

what camera would you say is best for recording concerts?

best camcorders under $250 on Video baby monitors under $250
best camcorders under $250 image

fuzzyspark

Video/Digital camera maybe under $250?
I go to a lot of shows and i only have a cheap 10mp digital camera. Its sound comes out full of static and you can't understand anything.

What camera or recording device is best for recording concerts/shows/anything loud?

Answer
The "best" will be any device with manual audio control. The automatic audio gain control in any camcorder get overpowered by loud audio resulting in clipping and that muddy and static sound.

Correctly using manual audio control prevents that clipping because it bypasses the auto mic gain control. The least expensive current camcorders - of which I am aware - with manual audio control are the Canon HV30 and the Sony HDR-HC9. They are well outside your budget.

An alternative is to keep using the camcorder you are using and get an external audio recording device - a field recorder - like those from Zoom, Edirol, Marantz, Sony, and others. When you edit the video, import the audio from the field recorder, sync the audio, then mute the audio that came in with the video.

What camcorder is best for my friend?

Dara

She is 16 and wants to be a director, so she wants to make short films for fun and stuff.
It has to be under 250

So being able to move around without it being blurry and crap is good
And high deff/long running time is good to
durable.

And obviously she is going to want one that has a memory card to put in her computer.

:) thank you!

Answer
There are a ton of great digital camcorders that are coming onto the market and I'm actually on the market for a new one myself. I'm looking for something much more compact and portable with a new digital camcorder and I too am looking for something that won't break my bank. :) A good friend of mine suggested this Aiptek digital camcorder, http://www.digitalimaginghq.com/aiptek-ahd-hd-digital-camcorder.html With 6 MB of memory and USB cables so that you can easily hook the camera up to your computer this digital camcorder may be the perfect fit for your friend and well for me too! :) Hope this helps!

How do I put AVC/H.264 files from an HD camera and encode an AVCHD DVD to play in my Blu-Ray player?

top hd camcorders comparison on Kodak PlayTouch HD Camcorder Images:
top hd camcorders comparison image

usmcwartha

Seems like it should be real simple, but it's not. The Samsung camera I have records to MP4 files encoded as AVC/H.264. I should be able to encode to AVCHD and burn to a DVD and play that in my BD player. The software that comes with the camera is garbage. How do I do this? What software should I use? Seems all I can find are cryptic 10-step processes.

Answer
1) Get and install a video editing application that can deal with AVCHD video. Current versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere float to the top for Windows/Vista. iMovieHD '8 or newer and current versions of Final cut for Macintosh (running on an Intel Mac).

2) When editing is complete, Save As or Export as an h.264/ACHD file. Burn the file to a DVD. Remember, reular single lyr and double layer DVDs hold only 4.7 gig and 8.5 gig, respectively. In comparison, BluRay blanks for BluRay recorders star at 25 gig. The amount of compression you apply in the final render process will determine what can fit - and the more you compress the worse the video quality gets.

3) Yes. The software in the box with the camcorders is garbage. It is the same with Panasnic, Sony, Canon and JVC... Samsung is not the only one that does this.

Is? DXG USA DXG-590V HD DXG Pro Gear 1080p High-Definition Camcorder a good camera?

Computers_

I saw on amazon this for used with minor scratches (I don't care) for $145 free shipping. I don't mind the lack of storage as I've got memory cards myself, but major question is : IS this even a good video camera? I'm just looking to put 720p videos or if possible 1080p on YouTube.

Anybody know if its mac capable?

Best answer goes to who's most descriptive.

Answer
Camcorder prices are dropping as the new class of devices are coming out. I'm not hating on DXG but they aren't a top tier camcorder maker. I've had a DXG that worked great and another that was a piece of crap. I'm very cautious about any camcorder sold at Sears and Wal-Mart.

In it's favor is the 5x optical zoom
H.264 MOV is great if you are a Mac user.

PC users will have to have a video editing program able to read the .mov format or will have to use a video converter if they plan to work with Windows Movie Maker or Windows Live Movie Maker.

Working against it is the photographic 12 mpx photo, it is interpolated meaning that it doesn't have the ability naturally. It magnifies the pixels into looking larger than it is. Not cool.

It states that it needs a Class 6 SD card so you might have to buy if you only have Class 4 cards.

Using the $145 as a base level comparison there are these options

JVC Everio GZ-MS110BUS Flash Memory Camcorder for $99 at Tiger Direct is a great buy but it isn't HD, it will do the wide screen format but it is a standard def camcorder. If you are just posting to YT this might not be a bad thing.

B & H Photo has a newer version of a DXG for $120
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/674652-REG/DXG_DXG_5B1V_DXG_5B1V_Sportster_High_Definition.html

I'd hold off for a bit longer or until you find a sale from Canon, JVC, or Panasonic.

Which one is the Best of the Best Handycam With clear 1080i Hd recorder and all latest updations?

top camcorders in india image

Manoj K

I am planning to buy a new handy-cam. I am expecting the top rating handy-cam in India with all latest features, especially 1080i high clarity high definition recording or above version and also with still capturing. Expecting the guidance

Answer
"Handycam" is Sony's brandname for all their consumer-grade and "prosumer"camcorders. The SOny HDR-FX1000 captures low-compression DV and HDV format video to miniDV tape and captures JPEG still images to SDHC cards.

With a LARGE lens filter diameter (72mm) and LARGE 1/3" 3CMOS imaging chip array, it will do very well under low light conditions (any camcorder can do well under good lighting conditions).

With separate manual zoom and focus rings on the lens barrel, manual audio control on the OUTSIDE of the camcorder (not buried in a menu), LANC port, headphone jack and several other externally accessible controls, the biggest difference between it and a pro-series camcorder is that it has only a stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) audio input (just use a XLR adapter from BeachTek or juicedLink)... and it does not do HDCAM format...

Of course, to get the video from this camcorder's digital tape into your computer, this assumes your computer has a firewire port... and you can add the optional external flash memory recorder from Sony if you don't want to use digital tape.

If you mean to include other manufacturers other than Sony, please let us know that...

what is the best digital camera to buy (in India) between the range of Rs5000 and Rs7000?

Q. i need a digital camera between the range of Rs5000 to Rs7000.
and i wanted to ask if a digital camera can record a video or not?

please help me with this one

Answer
First, your shooting style; if you're looking for a simple, quality point and shoot that you can just turn on, shoot and make good pictures w/o having to be a pseudo pro shutterbug? If thats the case, for about 7000Rs you could get a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS. Great camera for the $$, great image quality, performance, etc. ( Has Image Stabilization which helps eliminate those "blurry" shots). I find Canon to be top notch, and I've owned Panasonics,Olympus and Nikon products. Note- if you bargain hunt (eBay, e.g.) this model can be found for less, around 6000Rs ($130 US dollars or so).
Good luck!!
also- this camera shoots video, with sound ..."The PowerShot SD1200 IS' Movie mode can capture VGA and QVGA movies with sound, at 30 frames per second for up to one hour (or 4GB per clip). Video quality is pretty good, easily replacing the family camcorder for simple video snippets"

I'm looking for a really good camcorder, but I only have a 150 dollar budget. Is there a good camcorder within that price? I know that isn't a lot when it comes to camcorders, but I just want the video to have pretty good quality, and some good sound to it too.

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

What is the best HD camcorder for videography at a $200-$300 price-range?

cody R

I am a professional photographer. I want to venture into professional videography now as well, however I do not want to make an investment over roughly $600 for cameras at the moment. I am looking for 2 camcorders for that price and curious of anyones recommendations? Whys and Whats? Thank you in advance for your time!!

Answer
Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. MiniDV tape camcorders give every frame of every shot and usually cost less.

http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part1_camcorder_choices.htm

http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part2_connect_camcorder.htm

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes â four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

Hi Folks,

I am much interested in photography since my childhood. But till I was using Canon A3100 Point and Shoot camera.

I am willing to buy an entry level DSLR as I am an amateur. I googled much but arrived in a confusion. I have shortlisted 2 models. Please suggest the best one.

1) Canon 600 D - heard many positive reviews, but lens cost is more and there is no auto focus in video mode.

2) Sony SLT A58 - heard that lens costs cheaper. But is it rare in market ? I think auto focus in video mode is available.

Answer
Actually Canon has some great value priced lenses. Sony has limited line up of lenses and they are normally expensive.
Here is an article that should help you with your first DSLR purchase:
http://photography-with-any-camera.blogspot.com/2013/05/best-digital-slr-for-beginners.html

Also, don't buy a camcorder for video as one answerer suggested unless you don't care much about quality. With a right lens, an SLR will take much better video than any consumer grade camcorder. With SLR you can do selective focusing but a camcorder will give you flat videos- everything always in focus. Here is another read for you:

Time to upgrade, but to what?

Hi,
I have been shooting videos for almost 4 years with the same camera, the sony HDR-SR12 but I came to the point where I want more control, more options.
The camera I am looking for is the panasonic gh3 or black magic pocket cinema camera.
The panasonic gh3 seems very promising with its ability to record in ALL-I and 72 Mbits mov file, but the sensor size is small and the color space is quite poor. (8 bits 4:2:0)
In the other hand, the black magic pocket cinema camera is very portable, is able to interchange lenses, can record on raw files, and can record with 13 dynamic range which is incredible for its price! Again, I am not sure how the 16 mm sensor will affect the overall image quality.
I am well aware that coming from my sony hdr sr12 camera it will be a huge step up, but I would like to make every bucks I have worth it.
I shoot videos mainly for narrative, but for the upcoming project I will do a documentary film.
Also, how about Nikons and Canons?
Lastly my budget is 1500$, but I could wait and save money if needed.
Thank you for your generous inputs.

Answer
I would suggest that you take a look at the Canon VIXIA HF G20. It has many features that rival much more expensive cameras. It's the top of the line consumer camcorder for 2013. Go here for a few reviews:

My question is how do you properly load a vhs-c cassette into a camcorder?
Do you have to slide the wheel on the cassette so it has tension?
And so that the front of the cassette is facing outwards when you put it in the camcorder?

I bought a brand new cassette earlier this month and didn't roll it back until I got tension and my camcorder ate the tape, is this tension in the cassette that crucial?

Janie lee

A professional camcorder that I can change up the lense, filter and whatever, on as I get more money. A camera I can eventually get an okay quality with for fictional motion pictures. Advice?

Answer
Hi Janie:

From your Y!A Profile, you are in the 19- to 21-year age category, so your funds might be somewhat limited, but at least you have a good idea for trying to stretch your initial purchase budget.

Also, I see you are in Sweden, which historically has been a PAL-TV format country, so you might avoid NTSC-only camera models. And rather than try to keep up with Krona and Euro exchange rates, I'll keep my monetary discussions in Dollars.

As far as "true camcorders" which have a higher tariff rate in Europe than Digital SLRs (like the Nikon D-series, the Canon EOS line, or the Sony Alphas) you will find not find many changeable lens models for less than the $2000-$5000 USD price range. (The really good changeable lens video cameras tend to run in the $12,000-$50,000 USD range.)

Having a wide range of interchangeable or upgradeable lenses is one of the appeals of the Digital SLRs (dSLR) that have "movie modes". Plus, the camera bodies are in the hundreds rather than thousands of dollars price range. One downside is the lack of professional audio features, since these are designed primarily as still photo cameras, not movie-making camcorders.

If you care to update your Question with "Additional Details" giving us a more-specific price budget ("cheap" is a very relative term, especially to a young adult) then specific brand and model recommendations can be made.

To stretch your budget money, I'd recommend looking at used-equipment rather than new, when starting out.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

I have looking at the Sony HC38, but I am unsure of how it will perform in lower light conditions that are common when hunting. I would expect it to take clear video for several minutes past sundown, but not all the way until it is pitch black outside. My price range is $250-$350.
Also, I am leaning toward Mini-DV or DVD camcorder, so I can easily transfer it to my computer.

What do you like about your digital video camera?

Ascended P

Looking to purchase a digital video camera for general home use. I want it to have great zoom for capturing wildlife, great audio capture and HD video. I want my video productions to be as close to professional as possible from my camera recordings.

What camera do you use & why?
What do you like about it?
What don't you like about it?
How user friendly is your camera?
How computer compatible?
What camera do you recommend?

Answer
I got a JVC Everio Camcorder (can't remember the product code) and its reasonably priced. For under $200, I considered it a wise investment.

What I like about it is it has 30GB internal memory, so I don't have to pack extra tapes or discs. 30gig is big enough .. at least for me.

What don't I like? Nothing .. for me, its perfect in every sense. It suits my needs in taking stills and videos. I'm having fun with it.

How user-friendly ? Very user-friendly. Small, compact .. like the saying goes "Small but Terrible" its not a hassle when you have to move into a crowd .. so small yet so powerful and very efficient.

How computer compatible .. Very compatible .. all I do is plug and play .. and I get my videos transferred to my computer and either edit the vids or burn them into discs. Never had a problem. I guess I got lucky.

What camera for recommendation? A JVC Everio, of course, since I own one. However, its still up to you, since you're the one buying and when you do, consider all the aspects of the product and make sure it suits your needs first.

Good luck with your purchase and hope you get a good one.

I'd like to get my wife a digital camera that she could shoot movies on as well. Not a replacement for our camcorder, but something that will shoot above average movies when we don't have camcorder with us, or it's just easier to bring around like at amusement parks or petting zoos.

Answer
Yes, there is. It's called the Canon TX1.

It's a 7mp camera that also shoots 720P high definition video. It als has image stabilization and a 10x zoom lens.

Here's a review of the camera here:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonTX1/

Essentially, you get high quality stills and better than average camcorder functions at 1280 x 720 resolution, 30 fps.

How much would a good camcorder cost?

A camcorder or a movie camera thats pretty good quality. Semi-professional.

Answer
Try this camera selector. It lets you select the features that are most important to YOU (including price ranges) and gives you lots of information on models that have the features you want.

I'm looking for a new camcorder for a little under 300 dollars. Of course, the obvious and popular electronic companies pop up first in my searches:
JVC
Sony
Panasonic
Canon
And the more recent Flip Video.

Which brings up the question: as a camera user, which product and company has brought the best quality video for the money? Which sell you short? Let me know your opinions, please and thank you!

Answer
I use JVC, its great

I was hoping to get a video camera for my birthday and i was wondering whats the best kind thats not higher than 250

Answer
Well as a cinematographer I have used a lot of cameras but it narrows down to only a few I'd suggest for under $250. First is Somy DCR-SX45, It's about $200. I am
currently using one of theses as a secondary camcorder that I take everywhere instead of taking my Canon XLH1 everywhere.
The second camera I'm gonna suggest is waterproof which is the Kodak Playsport (Zx5), about $159.00. I use this camera when skiing/snowboarding, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, and anytime it is suppose to rain.

Oh, and stuff other than cooking -_-

Answer
1. Calligraphy
2. Craft-making [I know a shaykh who makes beautiful frames, halal pictures, and even Qu'ran verses from wood, and then paints it very beautifully and either sells it, gives it as gifts, or uses it to decorate his house].
3. I ride motorcycles :-) Vroom Vroom!
4. Video games [There are some awesome video games out there... like Halo for XBOX doesn't even have music except human voices! It's cooooool!]
5. I like to go cave-diving [also called spelunking]... There are lots of "Grotto's" in just about every state [these are organized online groups that explore caves and practice caving techniques...it's a lotta fun!]
6. Almost any nature stuff... fishing, camping, white-water rafting, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, etc. Girls can do this stuff easily.
7. Get involved in some Dawah stuff with your Masjid. If there isn't any Dawah stuff, start some!
8. Is reading a book considered liesure activity? Anyways it's always good to increase that knowledge!
9. Make some amatuer short films... get a simple video editing software program like Adobe Premiere Elements and a hand-held camcorder, and you are ready to go!
10. Learn a new skill, like working on cars n stuff... who knows you might like it!

That's all I got for now, but that should be enough to get you started!

Answer
Digital Formats
Digital camcorders differ from analog camcorders in a few very important ways. They record information digitally, as bytes, which means the image can be reproduced without losing any image or audio quality. Digital video can also be downloaded to a computer, where you can edit it or post it on the Web. Another distinction is that digital video has a much better resolution than analog video, typically 500 lines. There are two consumer digital formats in widespread use:

* MiniDV:

MiniDV camcorders record on compact cassettes, which are fairly expensive and hold about 60 to 90 minutes of footage. The video has an impressive 500 lines of resolution, however, and can be easily transferred to a personal computer. DV camcorders can be extremely lightweight and compact -- many are about the size of a paperback novel. Another interesting feature is the ability to capture still pictures, just as a digital camera does.

Sony has recently introduced MicroMV, a format that works the same basic way as MiniDV but records on much smaller tapes.

Digital8 camcorders (produced by Sony exclusively) are very similar to regular DV camcorders, but they use standard Hi-8mm tapes, which are less expensive. These tapes hold up to 60 minutes of footage, which can be copied without any loss in quality. Just as with DV camcorders, you can connect Digital8 camcorders to your computer to download your movies for editing or Internet use.

Digital8 cameras are generally a bit larger than DV camcorders -- about the size of standard 8mm models.

DVD camcorders are still relatively rare, as compared to MiniDV models, but their numbers are growing steadily. Instead of recording magnetic signals on tape, these camcorders burn video information directly onto small discs. The main advantage of this format is that each recording session is recorded as an individual track, just like the individual song tracks on a CD. Instead of rewinding and fast-fowarding through tape, you can jump immediately to each section of video. Other than that, DVD camcorders are pretty close to MiniDV models in performance. The picture is a little better on DVD models, however, and DVDs can store more footage. Depending on the camcorder's settings, a disc can hold 30 minutes to two hours of video.

The newer DVD camcorders support two DVD formats: DVD-R and DVD-RAM. Both are three-quarters the size of DVD movie discs and are encased in plastic cartridges (at least while in the camcorder). The advantage of DVD-R camcorder discs is that they work in most set-top DVD players. The drawback is that you can only record to each disc once, which means you need to buy new discs regularly. You can record over DVD-RAM discs again and again, but you can't play them in ordinary DVD players. Like MiniDV tapes, you have to either use your camcorder as a player for your TV or copy your movie to another format.

The Sony Network Handycam IP records onto both MicroMV and Memory Stick.
* Memory card: There are now some digital camcorders that record directly onto solid-state memory cards, such as Flash memory cards, Memory Sticks and SD cards.

These days, you can get a digital camcorder for $600 and pick up some tapes for under $10. Digital video editing programs simplify the editing process to the point where you can master it in an afternoon.

Even low-end analog camcorders have so many helpful features that anybody can get decent footage with a little practice, and you can create quality movies with more in-depth studying. The technology that was once the exclusive domain of television professionals is now available as hobby equipment. Whether you simply want to record birthday parties and recitals or you hope to produce ambitious video projects, the newest camcorders certainly have a lot to offer.

What camcorder and lights would be good for greenscreening?

?

Hi!

I'm looking to greenscreen videos for YouTube for under £600. The camcorder I have is only 720p HD and even then it isn't the best quality. It cannot key out the background and me together and it always makes a horrible sound throughout the video. I have to use After Effects CS5.5 to key out and even then it doesn't key out properly with keylight 1.2 with the settings changed. It's a FujiFilm Finepix s3200.

What camcorder should I get that can fit all my needs?

And...... What lighting should I get as I only turn on some lamps.

Thanks.

P.S. It MUST BE CHEAP!!
Palladine and Carl: Great answers! This helps me so much. Thanks!

Answer
I do green screen. My lights and stands, follow along and find out.

My stands are made form 2 Empty, used paint cans, a couple of 8 foot 2 X 2s, 4 bolts, 8 washers, 4 nuts. Tools needed, drill, drill bit, screwdriver, various wrenches., saw. sawed about 3 1/2 inches off of each pole, used them inside the can. Drill through 2 X 2, pail side and shot 2 X 2, fasten all together with bolts, washers and nuts. Fill can with gravel, rocks, something heavy. If needed, cut top off so as fit in your place your shooting.

To light the screen, I use 4 $12 clamp lights. I also have about 10 $4 spring clamps, one of those holds the clamp light. The light is pointing at a piece of Foam Board, spring clamps, 2, hold it on. The light reflects back onto my green screen. Works great. In the 4 lamps I have mounted on the 2 X 2s, all are mounted that way.

My talent lighting, I own 3 Light poles from previous adventures in m,y life, I use clamp lights, again held on to the light poles by the spring clamps, to do a 3 point lighting setup. Works great.

My camcorders are all Canon ZR series MiniDV tape camcorders. I use Pinnacle Studio 14 HD Ultimate as my Video Editing NLE program. It all works very good together.

My only misgiving, I wish I had a larger room to do this in.

Cheap dSLR or top knotch bridge / hybrid ?

top hd camcorders 2010 on Sony Webbie MHS-CM1 HD Camcorder | Best HD Camcorder Review
top hd camcorders 2010 image

Kaninho

I am a international tourism student, and I travel a lot. I want a all round camera that delivers me lively pictures.

I heard some people talking that the cheapest dSLR camera's takes "better" pictures than the best bridge/hybrid camera. I am leaning towards the Panasonic Lumix FZ35/FZ38 or the newer model which will be availabe in 2 weeks, or should I buy a 8 year old dSLR camera for that money ? I am really liking the Lumix FZ35/FZ38 and I have seen really impressing pictures taken with that camera, and the HD camcorder is also a plus, but on the other hand, the old dSLR will still have a bigger sensor, which will lead to quality images. The 2009/2010 Lumix FZ35/FZ38 & FZ45(newest model) will all have the newest technological features, which will be handy I guess compared to the old dSLR. Will the technological improvements in 8 years make up for the lacking sensor in the hybrid / bridge camera?

Will this be visually noticable in a standard photo format?

And yes I know, like the old saying goes, "Fear not the weapon but the hand that wields it."

So I am thinking about the lumix FZ35/FZ38 , or the newer model, or a 2002 model dSLR...

Answer
I can get great shots with my Nikon Coolpix P90. If you're not going to shoot anything bigger than 4x6's, I doubt if it's going to matter much.

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8. Do I have to Purchase OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and OS X Lion to be able to run icloud?

Step 1:
Make sure your Mac can run Lion.
Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor to run Lion. Find out if your current Mac has one of these processors by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then choosing About This Mac.

Step 2:
Make sure you have the latest version of Snow Leopard.
Get up to date with the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard to purchase OS X Lion from the Mac App Store. If you have Snow Leopard, click the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.

Step 3:
Download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download it. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install Lion. If you don't have broadband access, you can visit any Apple Retail Store to get help with downloading. Or you can order the OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive from the Apple Online Store.

I have a JVC camcorder, that records to mini dv tapes, and I was wondering how to get the videos on to the computer? or a dvd?

Answer
a miniDV vcam must be DV~Firewire400**-connected to computer to upload video thru video editing* or capture application while vcam is ON PLAYBACK. Most (digital) tape vcams have 4-pin DV ports; before cable purchase** check pc or mac for DV port {VCAM@4-pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC@4/ 6-pin?}. If none, install firewire card: pci for desktop or pcmcia / express for laptop.

How good is the quality of Mini Dv camcorders?

mike9626

I'm just looking for a pretty basic camcorder. Is the picture clear with the Mini DV camcorders? I've heard that it's at least equal to or better than VHS movies, which for home videos is not so bad.

Answer
don't let the "mini" fool you, it is a tape system far superior VHS. The mini refers to the size of the cassette as DV comes 2 sizes, regular and mini. The regular size was never popular, but the mini size is perfect for camcorders. The DV tape system is widely used by television stations because it is smaller, lighter and better resolution than betacam. The only drawback is they did not make a home deck version for playback as DVD became the replacement for VHS rental movies. you playback directly from the camcorder or load into a computer for burning a DVD.

Canon ZR960 miniDV camcorder still in production ?

best camcorder under 4000 image
Q. is this camcorder still in production? and canon is the only brand which is producing this miniDV camcorder even TODAY?

Answer
Yes still on their website as a current model.

I have not checked all brands, but it appears Canon is the only one with a low cost MiniDv camcorder for those who want high quality video, a low price, and understand that standard DV is superior to so called "HD" camcorders.

Canon and Sony (others I'm sure) make a HDV camcorder using the MiniDv tape at around $1000. Canon and all other major makers use MiniDv in their pro-cameras using the HDV format.

Interested in quality, not much money, not afraid of editing...Get the ZR960 while you still can. Any "HD" camera under $4000 will not be able to touch this $300 camera's quality on a screen bigger than your laptops!

What are some video/DV/DSLR cameras that are the same quality as the Canon XH A1 and the Canon 5D Mark II?

Alex

I'm torn between the two, but are there cameras (maybe from other brands, even) that offer similar video quality? I'd like to consider all of my options before making a purchase.

Answer
Hi Alex:

You asked a similar Question last week over in the "Cameras" Category, but since you are interested in shooting "video" and not still photos, I'd recommend you discard your thoughts of using a DSLR like the Canon 5D (or any of the other Rebel/EOS series).

There's a current "craze" for using DSLRs to shoot video, sometimes motivated by budget & lensing options (it's hard to find a changeable-lens true camcorder for under-$3000 USD). But audio features on any DSLR take a backseat, and complaints about lousy audio capture, without spending a bundle on extra microphones & external mixers or digital recorders, are frequent with DSLR shooters & editors. And built-in limits on video-length and sensor overheating issues (after 30 minutes or so) also eliminate most DSLRs for serious video projects.

And keep in mind that the Canon XH-A1 camcorder is a late-2006 model that's no longer made. Still shoots great HDV hi-def, and stores video in low-compression high-bitrate MiniDV cassettes. Pro-audio XLR connectors with real audio knobs & settings exceed anything a DSLR can provide. Plus, you get time-code support, which DSLRs lack.

Other similar camcorders in the same price bracket are Sony's HVR-Z1 (the newer Z5 & Z7 might be out of your budget), and Panasonic's various AG-DVX or AG-HVX series (the DVX30P, the DVX100-DVX300, the HVX200, etc.). The DVX are standard def, but shoot good 16:9 widescreen if that's your big concern; otherwise, get an HVX hi-def model, new or used.

Once you get in the $4000-$5000 price bracket for camcorders, you get changeable lens options (like the Sony HVR-Z7 & HVR-S270, and Panasonic's AG-AF100).

If you choose a newer AVCHD-file format camera like the AG-AF100, just make sure your editing computer & software can handle that highly-compressed format.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Most** things I shoot for are for videos. I really love making short films and I just got an increase in budget. Anyway, I wanna know what lens I can get for this. Of course, I really don't wanna spend more than $1500 on lenses. I was told that prime lenses were the best options but I'm still unsure. I was reviewing the canon 85mm f1.8 as a choice and it seems very nice but, idk if I should spend the extra money and go for a 85mm f1.2. It's a hard decision as the second lens gives much better quality. But then there's the other side in which I could get more than one lens if I buy the f1.8. Right now I own a canon 6d and have the 50mm f1.4 lens. I had more but I sold them for personal reasons.
Please help!!

Here's an APS-C digital camcorder with an interchangeable lens system.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/890796-REG/Sony_NEX_VG30_Camcorder_Body_Only.html

The extra money can be used to shop for NEX lenses. Prime lenses are fast and can be used in low light. Zoom lenses are more versatile without moving out of place. I suggest you get a mix of both.

WHICH IS THE BEST CAMCORDER ?

s b

I am pretty confused .kindly advice what factors to be considered before buying the Camcorder.

Answer
your budget is the main factor.

Canon XL2 3CCD MiniDV Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002OJYDS?ie=UTF8&tag=08aug-20

The Canon XL2 allows you to capture images closer to the finished product than ever before. Work that previously was limited to post-production can be simply and effectively accomplished in the field, in the camcorder. An Open Architecture philosophy, performance found only in much more expensive video cameras, Total Image Control and the solid foundation of Genuine Canon Optics, interchangeable lens capability and superb Canon image processing quality are united in the XL2.

Let me just say straight up that this would be a five star camera if the price was $1,000 less.

I do not claim to be an expert on high quality digital camcorders. I've just dome some reasearch and thought some whould be interested in my opinion.

This is the best picture quality semi-pro (between $6000 and $1500) camcorder availiable. Many think that this also will be the last of the semi-pro cameras to come out before the whole format switches to High Definition. The reason why the XL2 has been getting bad reviews on some websites is not because of the camera's quality but because just about all of the press and many professional videographers were expecting the XL2 to have high definition instead of progressive scan.

The progressive scan quality of the XL22 is more than many will ever need, including myself. Unless one can afford a top quality TV that plays high definition you'll never see the difference between XL2's picture and a HD picture. Not to mention that all of the a computer editing programs whith a reasonable price do not support high definition yet.

Currently the only camera that can compete with the XL2 is the PanasonicDVX100A it has slightly poorer picture quality (almost unnoticable) and it shares the nearly magical 24f and 30f progressive scan modes. It make what you shoot look like a movie. When you watch these modes for the firt time you won't be able to decribe the difference it makes but you will see it and fall in love.

The reason why I chose the CanonXL2 over the DVX100a is because no camera currently on the market comes close to having the XL2's number of manual features and selection of lenses. This camera is for people wanting to experiment with the visual style of filmmaking, trying to acheive art on the screen.

For those who are looking for a high quality camera that is less hands on and more automatic (something you can pull out and instantly get great picture) and are not intrested in digital film as an artform but one of those who just wants to get the best picture for family events and weddings the PanasonicDVX100A would be a better choice as it is an easier camcorder to learn and has picture quality that nearly matches the XL2, not to mention it is $1500 cheaper depending on where you look.

I'll stick with my CanonXL2, though, as I hope to join the film buisness one day and I need the freedom of manual features this camera offers.

I welcome an oposing opinion.
