best camcorders of 2010 image

I have a Canon VIXIA HF R10 purchased in December 2010. Everything functions properly on the camera, but the automatic lens is not opening to take a picture. I contacted Canon customer support and my only option is to send it in for a replacement. My warranty is out and I am trying to avoid doing this. If anyone has had this same problem or knows how to fix it, please HELP!

Send it to canon if under warranty, if not you can get a pro to fix, or just get a new one.
