For me...
Standard definition DV only:
Canon XL2, Sony DCR-VX2100, Canon GL2, Canon ZR960
DV and HDV:
Sony HVR-Z5, HVR-Z1, HDR-FX1000
Honorable mention: Canon XLH series and XH series; Canon HV30/HV40; Sony HDR-HC9

Personally, I bought the DCR-SR100, and I'm very happy with the video quality. I like that it stores to the hard drive, and that I don't have to buy any additional media (blank tapes/DVDs, etc.)
The video quality is probably on par with the DVD camcorders as they both record video in the same mpeg2 format. The downside for DVD camcorders (at least for me) is that each mini-DVD only holds about 20 minutes of video - whereas the 30G HD can hold > 7 hours of video at the best quality setting.
