I like the Pelican cases. Variety of sizes and colors, water resistant (Not always waterproof), and you can customize the interior with their "Pick and tear" foam.

C-Mount cameras are mostly used in cheap-moderately priced CCD cameras for security systems. Problem is these rely on external recorders.
This system actually has some advantages. The cameras can be very small and mounted remotely to the recorder. I have used this system on Kayaks, Skis, and for numerous vehicles for external shots.
Good cameras are in the $300 range. And good card based, battery operated, pocket sized DVRs start at about $300. Take a look here for some ideas:
